Guest guest
I think I've calmed down enough to post this. I finally got my mother to go back to an endocrinologist and she ended up crying the whole way home. She had RAI three times about 20 years ago, and has been a physical and emotional wreck ever since. She has unbearable pain every day, and supposedly has fibromyalgia. She's " morbidly obese " . She suffers from depression. I've been talking to her about everything I've learned since I've been on this list, and she finally made an appointment with an endo. She's just been monitored by her GP for years now. Anyway, she goes armed with information. I'm convinced she's been hypo for years, and that's the cause of her problems. Well, this doctor tells her that there is no way that her thyroid could be the cause of her pain. (Duh! one of the first things my doc asks me is if I've had any muscle cramps or pain, since that's one of the best markers of hypothyroidism). He says she needs to see a rheumatologist. Well, she's been to umpteen rheumatologists, and they tell her there's nothing they can do for her--that she doesn't have rheumatoid arthritis. Then she asks about adding T3 to her synthroid. He tells her he would never give anyone T3 because all it does is raise your heart rate. So, she says she thinks she might have a problem converting T4 to T3. He tells her he's never heard of such a thing. HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING??? And this doctor is a practicing physician at the University of Kentucky! Is there anything I can do? This man has no business practicing medicine. Is there a place to report doctors who obviously have no idea what they are doing??? I mean, this man is an endocrinologist! And besides giving completely false information, he talked down to her and basically told her to shut up several times, that he knew what he was doing. He wanted to know where she got all this foolish information. Aaargh! Now I'm all worked up again. I can't let this man get away with doing this. What can I do?? My mom has really given up, now. I told her to make sure and tell her GP what happened so he won't refer anyone else to this man. Holly
