I had a brief scare during a hot summer and pregnancy that they might have to but I managed. I can't imagine my finger without them (in reality I don't think they will come off now as the lower part of my finger seems much thinner than the knuckle) :-))) Donna Mum to (17) Kimberley(16), Kayleigh(14), (11), Kara (4) [homebirth at last]

I must confess to not having the same rings as I had when I got married, as I have got fatter, and fashions do change in almost 34 yrs (anniversary coming up on the 4th July!). My present ring on my left hand is a very pretty white gold and diamond affair we got in Israel last autumn, I took a jpg of it to show to someone over the net.. http://www.ruthiepearlman.com/pictures/ring.jpg and on my right hand I wear a ring that used to be yellow gold and has little diamonds at the top, but I had it dipped in " white gold " (really rhodium and costs next to nothing to do, or nothing at all, my neighbour works in Hatton Garden). I am very into white gold atm, or two tone white and yellow. Israel has the most beautiful and original jewellery and I am sorely tempted whenever I go there! White gold is available in 9 or 18 carat and is white because it has a high proportion of silver mixed in as the alloy. You will not see 22ct white gold (or rose gold or green gold for that matter) as the proportion of gold is too high to allow the other colour to show through. Rhodium is used a lot to plate settings around stones (reflects the light to make stones look more brilliant) and often to plate white gold items as although they are described as 'white' they often have a dull gold tinge to them. http://www.foxstitch.co.uk/

I once bought a white gold bracelet and necklace set, and as you describe, it wasn't that white, it was half way between yellow and white, so I had that dipped in rhodium too. It makes jewellery look very silvery white, but it wears off in time. I have to have my ring replated every few months. Luckily it doesn't cost me much, if anything. Guest guest
I have 2 rings that never come off; my platinum wedding ring which has been there for 19 years come this August and a 1.5 carat diamond set in white gold which my mother gave me when I was about 17 - it was hers but my dad had bought her a bigger one! My insurance company insists that I get the claws checked every 3 years as I wear it all the time. I never had an engagement ring as the platinum wedding ring cost a fortune in 1982. I also wear a selection if silver rings which do come off for washingup, showers etc as they will tarnish. I have recently started making my own silver jewellry - I go to a class and have learned to cut and solder silver, set simple stones etc. Akiko
