Yes, I know he's too young but...

DH picked Tim (almost 22 months) up from nursery on Tuesday and told me that

he'd been told they were introducing him to the potty, sitting him on it at

nappy changes. Oh well, I thought, we'll see what happens. Lo and behold,

first thing Wednesday morning he says " Potty! Potty! " (not a word he has ever

used before) so I thought " OK, let's sit him on it then " (I bought one to keep

in the cupboard just in case a couple of months ago - still had the price on and

everything!). He did what I suppose is the usual thing - sat down for a bit,

stood up, looked, sat down again, etc, etc. After about 5 minutes of this I

decided enough was enough, said " Good boy, well done, let's put your nappy on

and have breakfast " . He took a bit of parting from the wretched thing, but OK,

we had breakfast. About half-way through the weetabix he said " Potty! " again a

few times, and was a bit upset that I didn't act on his command, but I said " No,

we've just had the potty, you did very well, but there wasn't anything, was

there? " and carried on with breakfast. Lo and behold, when I unbuckled him from

his high chair, there was an aroma from the bottom area... so he's not dumb! We

had the sitting on potty palaver at the other nappy changes that day, then the

next morning he didn't mention it so I thought right, put the thing in the

airing cupboard, he's not ready. OK, fine. Then Thursday night he was having

his bath with Daddy when I went to get some petrol. When I came back DH yelled

" Where's the potty? " I came upstairs to discover that Tim had asked for the

potty. DH went downstairs to look for it and when he came upstairs again empty

handed Tim was worriedly pointing at a puddle on the carpet and saying " mess " .

Bless!

I'm sure he's not really ready yet, but I have got 's book and will read

it tomorrow... just had to share this with you, though!
