Guest guest
Jody, Look at it this way. What if one of the new gals on PTU was stable, then went to twice a day dosing, leaving her with 8 hours each day of at least a month with TIME for her antibodies to INCREASE. Then this new gal stopped her PTU cold turkey for a week or so right after this. Would we be surprised if her previously lowered antibodies zoomed back up ? We KNOW she could get her FT4 and FT3 back down in a few months, but we would NOT be surprised if it took her antibodies much more time to get back down. PTU MUST be taken EVERY EIGHT HOURS ! With NO BREAKS ! If a doctor says you are too hypo and stop the meds for a few days...think about this !!!!!!! It is only going to cost you MONTHS more to get the antibodies back down ! True, FT4 may come back in one or two months but.... How long Jody ? 4, 5, 6 months ? The full time job of antibodies is to INCREASE in number unless they are CONTROLLED by us. They are only trying to protect the body, as wrong as this may be in the case of Graves'. Then they wonder why after not following the manufactures insert on PTU ( every 8 hrs), NOT reducing their iodine intake, not reducing their stress, not SLOWLY decreasing their dose, not using the prober lab test, Not not , not....THEN they wonder why they are still sick, and wonder why remission rates are so low ? If anyone here WANTS to go back over these issues, I highly recommend you go and read the archives. All of these subjects HAVE been explained in great detail by many members. Pam B has taken the time to add a great many useful links on the home page. Please use them. THEN...please look things up for yourselves. Do NOT rely on someone elses OPINION. There is SO much good information on the Internet, ( NOT personal sites and groups )..it is easy to look up any small part of Graves' and study IT for a week, and then something else the next week. Learn to use a search engine. That is IF you want to REALLY heal. We must each find our own path in this, but basics are basics. And don't be intimidated in the beginning. This does NOT require a college level education to understand. Just keep reading and judge for yourself where success lies. It does not take that long to understand how this all works. If you find posts or web pages that are particulary useful, print them out, and review them from time to time. It all comes down to desire and the willingness to make the changes needed. If you choose to keep that high stress job, only cheat on your diet once a week, or ..., and find you never get better, look at the long term. Which is more important. Your health for the rest of your life ....or ???? *********** Looks to me like hypo and high antibodies could be two completely separate issues. Or...sure could be. :-) -Pam L- 3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission due to SLOW reduction of PTU (despite an incompetent endo ! ), improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the big picture. Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.
