Guest guest
so I am going back through all my grab bag of AI tricks and supplements and have a few questions on selenimethionine or however its spelled sorry I do not have my book with me As I understand it AI says selenium renders mercury inert in the body it does not chelate so effectively it buys you some time ...sort of robbing to pay as my granma used to say...so my way of thinking is that if in my case I do have high body stores of mercury (25 years of allergy shots and leaking fillings), then selenium might help. That is, tying up some loose mercury with selenium temporarily while i chelate and get rid of more permanently would seem to make sense... I was taking it before I had amy amalgams out and for a month or so after until said she was not a fan of it..cannot remember why she said this Also somewhere recently I think I read that it was good for your thyroid Thank you

In AI page 162, Andy says, " Aside from being a good all around antioxidant, selenium compounds bind mercury quite tightly and make it inert in the body. " But he also says, " Selenium is potentially toxic at doses not far from those used in supplementation. For many people selenium is something they have to experiment with and customize. A few may choose to omit it due to toxicity concerns. " He recommends 50-300 mcg.-----------Jackie I was taking it before I had amy amalgams out and for a month or so after until said she was not a fan of it..cannot remember why she said this. -----------Hmmm. I don't know why she said this either. Maybe for a certain situation? She knows I'm taking it, and didn't have a problem with me using it, but I think we discussed it in terms of helping thyroid hormone conversion, as mentioned below.---------Jackie Also somewhere recently I think I read that it was good for your thyroid -----------Yes, selenium helps convert T4 into T3, the active form needed by your cells. Since some of it gets bound up by mercury and isn't available, supplementing it can be important.--------Jackie Thank you
