Guest guest
Got back from my weekend camping in Dorset, at Gaunts House late last night. It's a family festival type event where they run 'taster' workshops on different things - I've gone with my Mum and sisters for the last 3 years. We didn't have great weather unfortunately - it rained all the way down there and our clothes and cloth nappies were in suitcases on the roof under a tarpaulin that turned out to not be waterproof so everything was damp. Putting our big frame tent up in the rain with four children in tow was NOT fun! My sisters and I now have seven children between us, under 10, so it was certainly hectic all camping together. Fortunately they run a wonderful creche so some of the younger ones went in there for a couple of hours each morning to give us a break. Bethany really discovered her independence - she and her cousin Lia, who's ten were old enough to go off on their own together, shopping round the stalls and swimming in the pool (it was manned by lifeguards) so I hardly saw her at all, very strange. My younger sister brought her new boyfriend along and he turned out to be very skilled in producing huge piles of nice dry logs for our evening camp fires - it was lovely to sit round a roaring fire with the children all asleep in the tents - he even managed to rig up a barbecue one night and we had bananas with chocolate buttons in(amongst other things) - yum. There were loads of children there as usual plus lots of babies - I had great fun playing spot the sling brand - was nice to see lots of other like-minded parents. Oh and lots of openly breastfeeding mums too - felt very at home. Unfortunately Steve managed to throw away the bin bag containing all Alfie's dirty cloth nappies so that was a bit of a blow this morning when I realised what had happened upon discovering that they were not in the car (((( Fortunately it was mostly prefolds which won't be hideously expensive to replace - I'm so glad I didn't take my shaped nappies. I now have the washing mountain from hell to get through so I'll probably be catching up with that all week - back to reality with a bump!
