Guest guest
Ruthie Since it is so quite and I have no idea why i am still up I thought I'd tell you about a 'funny' little shop we have in Jersey that you made me think of when you were talking about the one near to you. It is an old fashioned haberdashery. To work there you have to be 'of a certain age' - over 55 (at least). They still close for an hour at lunch time and Thursday afternoons. The only time I have been served with any speed was when DD2 was a baby and I wanted an old fashioned 'mop' cap type sun hat, if I want any fabric for fancy dress etc I send in my mum and even she finds it difficult to get any form of 'rapid' service unless she goes in with a walking stick. I honestly don't think its changed since the occupation. You still encounter old Jersey people here speaking 'Jersiaise' and if I ever manage to buy something from there without them looking at me as though I'm something the cat's dragged in I will know a) I've finally been accepted and I'm decrepit and started wearing bri-nylon overalls!
