Guest guest
>> There are also 3 antithyroid antibody tests. I had the most common > one and my antibodies were higher than normal. The doctor who did > that test said " Hashimoto's " . Does anyone know if the other thyroid > tests have any utility if a person has Hashimoto's hypothyroidism? -----------I have the antibodies too and was told " Hashimoto's " . I'm not an expert on this, but I think TSH doesn't mean anything with it, because mine has been very, very low sometimes, which *should* mean Hyperthyroid, and I am anything but! One doctor prescribed Armour for me based just on these antibodies, but he didn't understand the adrenal connection and the need to support them first, so I started to feel worse on the Armour and quit. Haven't tried it since. But I have been on adrenal support now for a long time, and have been taking things like selenium and iodine to help my thyroid, and my recent test showed my antibodies below range, so that is an improvement. I don't know what exactly caused this, and hard to know, when we take so much stuff. Besides supplements, I also quit eating soy, which I read was bad for your thyroid. Another thing I read that can happen with Hashi's, is that your thyroid will sputter and spit out a bunch of thyroid hormone sometimes, so you can flip between hyper and hypo with Hashi's, making it difficult to treat sometimes. I guess this continues to happen until the antibodies have destroyed enough of your thyroid, and then you are hypothyroid all the time, because you can't make enough thyroid hormone. So back to your original question, I think TSH is useless for Hashi's, but you would still test Free T3 and T4 to try to determine if you need to supplement them. I was told to take selenium, because it is needed to help convert T4 to T3.-------Jackie Messages in this topic (18) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages MARKETPLACE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Earn your degree in as few as 2 years - Advance your career with an AS, BS, MS degree - College-Finder.net.
