Guest guest
HI! Here is goes. I am going to throw a monkey wrench into the postings on trigger foods and nutrition. On Wed. I went to see my psychologist. He spent the hour on what he discovered about nutrition and the many cases of people he has helped over the past ten plus years. I immediately left his office and went the Borders books and bought four books. I have been reading them voraciously. Think about these theories before throwing them out.... AND has anyone been on the following " diet " plans? The main guru on these theories is Dr. Schwarzbein - her book is called the Schwarzbein Principle. The other Drs. researching these theories are the Hellers, among others. Basically, the theories are that carbohydrates turn into fat - if not burned - AND eating carbohydrates TAXES insulin production. Dr. Schwarzbein is an endocrinologist and began her research on a diabetic ward in a hospital in CA. She would find that the diabetics would wake up with normal glucose levels after fasting at night for eight hours. She then said an hour after they were fed a high carb diet - cereal toast oj, their blood glucose levels skyrocketed and they needed insulin. There is so much more to her theories, but I tell you, I am seriously looking into it. She says low-fat CAUSES more problems. I got to thinking about all this because I have been on TPN for three weeks and have been monitoring my blood glucose - it initially turned me into a diabetic, but I no longer need insulin. My question was - if I am trying to let my pancreas rest, how come I was taxing the insulin production aspect of my pancreas so much with dumping pure glucose in my system for ten hours!!! It seemed to me that would STRESS my pancreas... Anyway, I have started adding foods to my diet. Instead of adding rice, potatoes, toast, and juices - ALL carbohydrates forcing extra insulin production - I started with a cheese omelet, steamed and fresh vegetables, cheese and crackers, chicken, turkey. I have been doing this for a WEEK now and feel GREAT! I have been off pain meds and nausea meds for over a week (I do have periods where I am still free from pain with supposedly not having any damage to my panc). There is so much more I want to say about this, but I'll stop and see if anyone has any feedback - check into the Schwartzbein Principle. Maybe it doesn't apply to CP, but I am GREATLY concerned with the traditional food pyramid, loading our systems up with carbs - which are sugars, needing insulin to turn them into FAT!!!
