A good, indestructible flashlight like a Pelican light. Waterproof,

bright, comes with a lifetime warranty, etc.

Any suggestion on a graduation gift for a Fire/EMS Academy Graduate?

I've actuall never purchased one.

The guy is ny future Son-in-Law (assuming he doesn't piss off my

Daughter which is very easy).

Any ideas?

I second the flashlight recommendation. I carry a Streamlight Stinger LED

myself, love it and never leave the truck without it.

I'm a big fan of the class ring, but that's just because of my

personality, and the fact that I'm incredibly young.

I'd say something like one of these:

I have done my level best to warn this man. The sad part is he never had

the chance to meet her mother. I met my Mother in law and was warned but did

not buy it. The old adage about meeting a woman's Mother IS true. I pity

his soul ;)

Rob that is so far off base it barely deserves a comment.

Guess what Firefighters make a far amount of $$ in Texas and frankly it's a

noble profession that fed my kids and has served me well both as a career

Firefighter and even as a VOLUNTEERT so I won't say what I am thinking

right now out of respect for that fact.

I'd never give a ring to a Firefighter I've seen 3 de-gloving injuries in

my life one of which was a firefighter. It was not as bad as it could be but

still left an impression.

As for opinions we all know what they resemble.

If a ring is what you want to do, I'd much rather go with a custom

personalised job anyhow, rather than some generic thing from a whacker site.

The

three big boys from the custom class ring world are:

www.balfour.com

www.jostens.com

But yeah, I still agree with the career counselling recommendation. ;)

they used to brag that if they didn't have what you wanted in stock, they'd

make a custom ring for you.

I'm a big fan of the class ring, but that's just because of my

I'd say something like one of these:

as long as they are not worn on duty, a ring should be fine.

Exactly. Rings have no place on fiefighters or EMS workers' fingers. And that

includes wedding bands. I watched a finger get degloved one day. Guy was on

the fender of a cattle trailer and jumped off. Unfortunately, his wedding ring

got caught in a tiny welding bead. He jumped, skin on finger stayed. It was fun

watching the ER doc use his bone cutters to cut the rest of the finger off.

You could always wear the ring on a chain around your neck. I know of many EMTs

and FFs that do this and just tuck the chain in their shirt if they have a psych

or Alzheimer's patient who may pull on it.
