LOL...mine, too. But if ya gotta collect something, might as well be

something that feeds your mind, huh?

" Thinking in Pictures " is a really interesting book. She gets really

into her animals. :-)

I think the thing I liked best about this book is the way she

describes having to set up tangible examples of symbolic

concepts...way cool.

This is a strategy that Donna suggests for kids with

autism...indirectly confrontational, I think she calls it.

Yup.

Raena (who is waiting for books to arrive by mail, a phone call from

the local bookstore about a book ordered a while back, and a book my

sister found that she is sending...all while trying to finish a book

borrowed from ' OT...eeks!)

I'm halfway through The Speed of Dark. It's amazing. It has brought up

some points about the NT world that just floor me - like we always teach our

kids the conventional things to say - please, thank you, I'm sorry - and

they always say them at the appropriate time, once learned...but do WE?

It is a strategy that works VERY well with ERic. Lately with homework I just

add the sheet to the pile on the dining table and remark, in passing,

" there's homework on the table when you feel like it, " and then keep moving

in the opposite direction.

He's doing about one sheet a night now! :-)

Oh, do I hear ya. Went to the library this week and paid $30 in late fees.

I had NO intention of picking up more books until I finished the speed of

dark...but one book wouldn't hurt, right?...went home with a backpack FULL.

I think there's actually research out there that looks into that.

I do know that while autism does not discriminate by colour, race, or creed,

it does tend to appear more often in families with higher education or the

intellegence required to pursue higher education.

I'm on page 52. Unless you're done by now I just might since is

sleeping. It's my only talent. Reading at the speed of light! Or should I

say dark? It's a very marketable skill NOT.

Hey, isn't anyone gonna answer 's question. I mean I am two days

late here! (maybe I deleted the answer?)

Tony Attwood is probably the best know Asperger Syndrome expert. He has

written a book called Asperger Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and

Professionals, and has written a number of articles on it. I gather he is a

good speaker and he does a fair amount of lecturing.

I'm on page 298. (of course, I got it more than a week before you did and

neglected it during the first hundred pages, reading only before bed)

It really has got me. At one point today I gasped, smacked my hand to my

chest while my eyes filled with tears...dh remarked, " am I going to have to

take that away from you? "

At this point, I still don't know if he's going to take the treatment or

not. There have been a lot of arguments for and against put forth -- among

the 'a team', NOT from Mr Crenshaw -- but I DON'T want him to!!!!! Who

knows, though -- maybe I'll change my mind. AFter all, there are still 42

pages to go... and a lot can get said in 42 pages, especially by Lou.
