For a couple of months now, has been waking up during early morning (some time around 3-4 a.m.), and been unable to go back to sleep for an hour or two. It could well be stress, of course. But I was wondering if MS could mess with your sleep like that too. Does anybody here know?

She says that it feels like she is too tired to be able to sleep (and that's what made me think it doesn't sound like stress, that would be being too wound up to sleep, rather than too tired to sleep).

Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know if it's MS related or not but the same sort of thing happens to me at times. I will go through periods where I wake at 3-4 and cannot go back to sleep. Thankfully that sleepless period only lasts a month or so usually and then I'm back to waking around 5. hugs to ! SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. hi Reb,

i have had frequent bouts of insomnia (also have had bouts of sleeping WAYYYYY

too much!), and like , i feel like i was too tired to sleep. they don't

seem to be related to activity, whether too much or too little. my neuro told me

it was most likely due to ms, and offered meds for when it happens, but i

declined because of the times i sleep too much. over the years i've kinda

learned to just roll with the flow; if i can sleep normal i do, if not i'll get

up and play around on the computer or something like that (quietly, so i don't

keep my hubby up at 3 am!), because its useless to try to sleep.

i think all i've accomplished here is to say she's not alone! sorry i really

help; but you are both in my prayers. good luck along the bumpy road of ms!

debby

p.s. - she's very lucky to have someone so supportive! kudo's to you!

Thank you, Debby! Knowing she's not alone is good too! And I was thinking it might be MS-related. I suppose I should write it down where I take notes on what to remember to tell the neuro-team when we are there on our regular visits. Not that I think will want medication for it either. But it might be good to discuss it with her doctor.love/Reb> >> > For a couple of months now, has been waking up during early morning> > (some time around 3-4 a.m.), and been unable to go back to sleep for an> > hour or two. • 3 weeks later...

A friend of mine with Primary Progressive MS sent me this about sleep and MS. Since we were just talking about sleep problems recently I thought I would forward what she said to the group. Her words are below.hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Sent: Monday, November 21, 2011 11:30 AM Subject: Fw: MS and sleep?

Sharon, just a thot but I have not slept for more than say, 3 hours at a time since MS attacked my body. Seriously. Prior to being dxd I had charlie horses and leg cramps (unknown to me at the time but it was my MS spasms- and had a hard time sleeping for more than 2 or 3 hours clumped together. Still, if I get 4 or 5 hours together, uninterrupted, I feel great and so happy that I got that much sleep at one time!

The neuro originally prescribed 5mg diazepam and I took it for 10 yrs every night. I weaned myself off of it 4 or 5 yrs ago but my PCP gives me 10 pills (rx not sample) of it twice a yr. So while I have it to use if I need it (have something really important going on the next day and can't afford to be sleepy - long driving trip, stuff like that) I don't use but maybe one a month now.

Not sleeping well - not sleeping for long uninterrupted time - is NOT good for our health. I know several doctors have told me that. REM and all that.....
