After my initial injury (eight years ago, so the medical science may be a bit more refined) the doc put me on 800 mg ibuprofen three times a day...with the caveat the the threshhold dosage at which damage might begin was 3200 mg per day, so I shouldn't take more. At 2400 mg, it seems to me one gets a little closer to that potential damage threshhold (kidney...and esophagus)); especially if the dosage is taken over a prolonged period...as would be the case with many of us.
