Ambulance 'Copter Grounded

Bird strike puts MONOC-1 out of service

MONOC-1, a Eurocopter aircraft used to transport critically injured patients to

the appropriate hospital for proper treatment, was grounded at J.

Air Park in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, after suffering a bird strike.

The birds hit the 'copter while it was airborne. It was unclear whether the

aircraft was leaving or returning to Air Park.

The 'copter was grounded to check the aircraft for damage, if any.

The incident was first reported shortly after 4 p.m. by the media service,

Breaking News Network.

It was not known if there were any injuries of the flight crew.

MONOC-1 flies under the banner of the Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service

Corporation, based at 4806 Megill Road in Wall Township, according to its

website.

It's availabililty is critical to seriously injured victims in southern

Monmouth County and Ocean County. Without the ability to fly a patient from an

incident, the victim would have to be transported by ambulance, over ground,

taking a considerably longer time.

The use of MONOC-1 is to move patients quickly and safely from accident scenes.

A person who answered the telephone at MONOC-1 headquarters initially said the

'copter was " out of service, " avoiding the word " grounded. "

When switched to another person at the same te lephone number, the person

declined to make any statement about the incident
