Is anyone aware of any EMS agencies that are doing public

education/outreach to nursing homes on recognizing emergencies as well as making

the decision as to when to call 911 or a non-emergency transfer provider?

Yes and they still call us when they don't want to wait for the commercial

ambulance company. In our area FD's do all 911 transports and the

private/commercial for profit ambulances do the routine transports only.

It has been tried in " my " neck of the woods from both the city 911 service and

the transfer companies, BUT--they still call for the transfer service even if it

is obviously an emergency call.

WE were told " off record " that if they` call the transfer services, that,

according to state policies(?), they DO NOT have to record the call(?) and that

it keeps their " stats " down.

Not to mention that they get tired of being lectured every time some fireman

comes in complaining about being woken up for what he deems to be unworthy of

his presence, even though it is a medical emergency, and then posting some

stupid video on YouTube about it. Emergency providers should first consider

educating themselves before they presume to educate others.
