Guest guest
if you want them to pay you have to get approval beforehand and if you have been told you are not a candidate by the surgeons here you are not likely to get letter from them telling BC med that you need this particular surgery. If you look on the msp website you will find what you have to do to get approval. There was a guy a few years ago who got reimbursed about $5,000.00 (the cost of surgery here), but as far as I know no one has been reimbursed since. Guest guest
Hey ...can I ask why you were told you weren't a candidate in Canada? Guest guest
Hi , The docs here have reached a very uneasy truce with BC Med that allows them to basically contravene the Canada Health Act by charging $3,000 for resurf prosthetics. Their end of this bargain (with the devil) is to make sure they never back a patient's claim for reimbursement on the basis that resurfs are " better " than totals - at least, not on paper. In my case, my surgeon wrote to my private insurer to say that because of my age and activity level, a resurf " may " help me avoid too-early revisions. In a case like yours, they would probably say you'd have been better off staying in Canada and getting THR because in their opinion you're not a candidate for BHR. Everyone's walking on very thin ice, here. Personally I'm not in favour of cracking it, though, because this truce at least allows the local guys to carry on doing more of these " questionable " operations than any other surgical team in Canada. It's a first step. By the way, I still haven't received compensation from my workplace insurance for the prosthetic, despite doc's letter. This is not just a medicare issue... the private guys also don't take kindly to new precedents. I do know of some early B.C. resurfs who got partial reimbursement from the govt for surgeries in England. That was before the " truce, " as I understand it. Also, it was with a lot of legal pushing. a Right Durom / VGH / 17.02.04 > > > Hi everyone, > > > This is my first post after several weeks of reviewing all the > wonderful > > > information on this site. Guest guest
Hi everyone, l have lived in several provinces over three decades and l would like to make a few comments. l have learnt that provincial healthcare systems do not offer identical coverage. lt is extremy uncommon that a provincial health will agree to pay out of province non urgent surgery when this surgery can be done in the province. The cost for a surgery varies from one province to another because the cost of living is not identical. l would like to make a last comment. BC has been through a phenomenal demographic growth over the last 2 decades which have sky rocketed the cost of public services. BC healthcare system is under extreme steaming pressure to the point that aceesibility to healthcare has become the major obstacle to its universitality. c+ 9/2004 > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > This is my first post after several weeks of reviewing all the > > wonderful > > > > information on this site.
