HI D O N,

Just read your post about " Chickening out " ....... BAH HUMBUG!!!

Why do that?

ly, i think it takes more balls, and greater determination, and

a more macho view towards your own pain tollerance and " Teeth

gritting determination " .............. to not have the surgery!

I mean... think about it..... you probably need surgery in the

firt place, because you have some painful, degenerative hip

disorder.....

Therefore, it makes sense that you are in a reasonable amount of

pain already, and your life style is suffering.... you know...

cant really do much sport anymore... no romantic walks with the

wife cus its just too painful.... can't really enjoy holidays

anymore cus all the exploring makes you shake with pain..... making

love hurts..... and all the rest of it.....

Well dude, if you would rather suffer with those symptoms, and

suffer even more when they degenerate over time..... than opt for a

quick surgery that will change your life........

THEN MY HAT GOES OFF TO YOU.... CUS YOU HAVE BIGGER COHONES THAN I

DO!!!!

I mean really... i put off surgery for way longer than i should

have.... cus " I wasn't a big wussy! "

All i really did was miss out on a whole load of great things that i

could have been doing pain free, I put up with 24/7 pain, and spent

so long walking bone-on-bone.... that i almost lost my chance of

having a resurfacing................ cus i almost wore away all of

my femoral head.

So... CHICKENING OUT???? well, frankly, i would say that if you

were a chicken or a big wet sausage.... you be having the surgery

as soon as possible, and be very focussed on doing so!

So, my advice.... be a chicken and get it done! You owe it to

yourself. There is nothing at all macho about destroyng your hip,

body and life, by putting off the surgery.

From the moment you wake up in the hospital recovery room, the hip

pain will be noticably " NOT THERE ANYMORE! " (metal hips don't have

nerve endings right?)

There is some soreness from the incision, and some discomfort from

the muscles been dispaced during the surgery, but this quickly wears

off, and you will be laughing about the fact that you were not sure

about having the procedure.

And the best thing????? After just a few days, will feel goo enough

to be kicking your own butt!!!! Without having people like me

kicking it for you!!!

Good luck,

Richie

After hearing this, it sounds like the food at the Royal Orthopedic in

Birmingham wasn't so bad after all. Who says the Brits can't cook?

Don,

What can I do to help you? I spoke with you from the hospital when

I was three days post op. They threw me out of the hospital because

on day three they found me four blocks from the hospital when I was

doing laps around OH on my crutches. I was released on Saturday and

flew home the same day to the East Coast. I got up the next morning

and walked on my crutches two miles to coach my son's baseball game.

I also had issues with donating blood, labs, timing, etc., due to my

distance from LA. I never did give blood prior to surgery. This is

not a JRI issue. You need to manage your own care and not take no

for an answer. I selected JRI and Dr. Amstutz because I believe he

is the best in the business with the most experience. I did plenty

of due diligence and got very comforatable with my decision. Be

comfortable with your decision and get it done and you will be

better for it. I began my research less that six months ago, and

today I am back home with a new hip and working part time one week

to the day post op. I kept a diary from my time at JRI and OH if

anyone is interested. My insurance covered 100% of the operation,

hospital and device. Don't take no here either.

My name is . I posted a few times and the email was Aleks so I

went with it. I have already met with or spoken to several people

in our similar circumstances and I am happy to give back any way I

can. I am grateful I found this group. Email or call me and see if

we can't help get you through this. Hang in there.

(C+ Dr. Amstutz 5/04/04) Is that how I supposed to do that?

In the first (and much less expensive) Gulf War, they were called

MRE's...and GI's were sure that stood for " Meals Refused by

Ethiopians " .

If the food's really THAT bad, maybe I'll just stick with the limp

and pain.

Hi Richie

I just wanted to say hi and thanks for making me

smile. Your diary of your hospital stay made me laugh

out loud several times and it was great to see your

photos, even if I havent had surgery yet and they also

made me go yuck! Nothing personal you understand.

Cheers

Liney

Hopefully soon to have a BHR
