Oh, in AZ, they don't need to progress. They're perfect. After all, they have

the " Mother, May I? " system which insures optimum care.

Re: PASG

Start a line with D5W and transport as soon as possible.

And sadly, it'd seem that much of the southwest (California, Nevada, and

Arizona) is needing to progress in EMS.

The CA, AZ, NV systems demonstrate the worst of all worlds in EMS. Add in DC

and you've got the worst of the worst.

Texas IS state of the art, for all its failures. It's so far ahead of AZ it's

totally out of sight. AZ folks swoon when I explain how EMS works in Texas.

Fire Chiefs run backwards like lobsters, afraid that somewhere, sometime,

somebody in power will realize just how big a scam they have run on the

population. And I use Fire Chiefs only because there are few non-fire based 911

services here in Moronizona.

I did my last refresher class at Loma in Southern California two years

ago. Great school, with great instructors. Highly recommended. But man, the

system itself is just horrible. I could not believe how clueless the majority

of the medics in the class were, many with years of experience. Most of them's

only interest in EMS was hoping to get on a fire truck somewhere, and nothing

more. It was like going back in time to 1972. It makes Louisiana look

state-of-the-art.

I don't think anyone who went to school in the 60s and 70s will ever

forget that smell! And the moist tackiness of the pages fresh out of the

printer. Students would fight over who got to pass them out. Good times!

The chemical, whatever it was, has probably been banned by the DEA by now.

Lucas device would be very similar to a " thumper " but we have have them at the

fire dept. And we have a great success with them.

not just that...in one test for an Airworthiness certification (USAF

style), Physiocontrol had to allow them to toss an LP5 out of a hovering helo at

50 feet onto a concrete pad...and the machine still had to work within

certification parameters after landing....

Somehow I doubt that there are any other monitor defibs that match that...

Back in the early 80s, Jerry Harness and I bought two dozen of those from

the City of Dallas for about 75 dollars each, then went up and down the LA

and MS Gulf Coast selling them for $500 dollars each. Good times! I've

still got one in my garage.

Back in the early 80s, Jerry Harness and I bought two dozen of those from the

City of Dallas for about 75 dollars each, then went up and down the LA and MS

Gulf Coast selling them for $500 dollars each. Good times! I've still got one in

my garage.

I'd prefer a fast rope test for the medic candidates....with the length of

the rope vs altitude of the helo based on their scores in class....lower

the score, higher the hover.....

The LP5 was half the weight and not as bulky as the MRL in the silver

The LP5, most versatile and rugged monitor ever made. I had one that

mated to an AED module, and also had a pacing module that went between

the monitor half and the defib half.

I'm still using two LP5's in ACLS class that I used on the rig 15 years

ago, and they were old even back then.
