I have been doing some reading on MAST in cardiac arrest. so what is considered

the current protocol for MAST in arrest. I saw on artical that says it is good

becuase it supports BP 9 duh) and one that says no becuase with the increase

pressure it could limit the blood flow to the brain also bad. thoughts? Ideas?

I did my last refresher class at Loma in Southern California two years

ago. Great school, with great instructors. Highly recommended. But man, the

system itself is just horrible. I could not believe how clueless the majority

of the medics in the class were, many with years of experience. Most of them's

only interest in EMS was hoping to get on a fire truck somewhere, and nothing

more. It was like going back in time to 1972. It makes Louisiana look

state-of-the-art.

Hey, I resemble that!

In defense of Louisiana EMS systems, we're not actually that bad. At

least we have some inkling of our deficiencies. There are many states

out there practicing circa 1980's EMS, and still think it's state of the

art.

Having seen other states, I'd dare say that Louisiana fits into the category of

not that bad. Several of the states on both coasts, not to mention the District

of Columbia, have reputations, in some cases deserved, that make Louisiana look

stellar.

Besides, doesn't anyone here know that we're supposed to picking on Oklahoma?

Lou, you're just a kid. Before the mimeograph was the Hectograph. That was the

one with the purple pages and the fumes that would get you higher than 14 tons

of marajaweenie. And when you got that purple stuff on your hands or clothes,

it was there to stay.

Back in the early 80s, Jerry Harness and I bought two dozen of those from the

City of Dallas for about 75 dollars each, then went up and down the LA and MS

Gulf Coast selling them for $500 dollars each. Good times! I've still got one

Now, just combine the two! By the mid 80s, we had tossed the foot pumps, and

were using the PPV demand valves to inflate the MAST pants. Got the job done a

lot faster, and with a lot less effort. I also figure that being wrapped in

pants inflated with 100 percent oxygen probably offered a serious hyperbaric

benefit.

The LP5, most versatile and rugged monitor ever made. I had one that

mated to an AED module, and also had a pacing module that went between

the monitor half and the defib half.

I'm still using two LP5's in ACLS class that I used on the rig 15 years

ago, and they were old even back then.
