People die due to accidents and tragedies all the time; their organs may as wellgo to save a valuable life!Love to Rita and all close to her, Akiba and Robbin, too,nSubject: (unknown)To: mserslife , wayofthewingedheart Date: Saturday, July 16, 2011, 3:51 PM

Rob just told me Rita is signed up for another lung transplant, then he said what has to be the cruelest thing I have ever heard *anyone* say...he said "how many people have to die so my sister can live?". I don't even know what to do with that...<shakes head in sorrow>

This reminds me of a question - I've heard that people with MS can't donate blood, that donating your body to science won't do any good - they just want the brain and spinal column - or use the body as " practice " in medical schools, can people with MS even donate organs?

Yes. I can donate blood, and am listed as an organ donor on my driver's license--Due to my having cystic fibrosis, however, they will only use my corneas!Love,n

Well, I know my lungs are out, being a 23 year smoker.  Does the cystic fibrosis cause problems with your heart, too?  I dated a guy when I was like 15 that had CF (for a month or three) but I didn't know that much about it.

Actually, here in PA we can donate blood... if we insist... it just won't be used. Red Cross will dump the blood when they get back to the bank, though it's not because of the MS, but because of all the medications we take.. And I got that tidbit of info from the Red Cross when I called to schedule my donation during a blood drive, but while working (we'd have gotten paid for the time we were at the donation center, but they wanted us to try and see if we couldn't get some "close" approximation of time scheduling.. so we all weren't gone at the

same time and for an extended period of time.. I guess it didn't really surprise me though, because I'd known from a previous donation that if I had been on antibiotics or anything in the past few weeks they wouldn't accept

the donation either...HUGSTo: MSersLife Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 10:03 PMSubject: Re: reply to Akiba's post

Guess that goes to prove the difference between states.. well kinda sorta a difference.. IF I hadn't been on Avonex at the time of the blood drive, they would have taken mine, but because of that, they wouldn't... I was told that if I "inisisted", they would take it, it would be marked and later disposed of when they returned home.. And darn! I didn't get paid for the hour for donation like everyone else at work did.. cause I didn't go.. they wouldn't have except that was an hour off the phones with pay.. and I would have cause my mother did, and I wanted one of those little blood drop pins that they gave out after you'd given so many gallons (over a period of time..).. back in the day.. Mom got her pin fairly quickly, cause she was AB positive.. something that was always in

shortage or there was always a demand for or something along that order.. she always told me only 10% of the population have it or some such thing (might have just been our county of residence then).. but if she didn't volunteer during a drive, they'd call her to make a special appointment or something for her to come in and give her donation... and she always did.. and was always more than happy to as well.. it wasn't a chore for her.. It was kinda sorta a good thing that she did too, because when she was so sick at the end, requiring 2 pints a week in transfusions.. we were ever so grateful that somebody else felt the same way she did all those years before.. AND if I'm not mistaken, either those two pints didn't cost as much as they would have, had she not been a member & provided all those donations years before, or they didn't cost anything at all because of that.. I suppose

that, depending on the person(s) working the donation site, I could be accepted for donation.. but I'd still run the risk of getting that one person who didn't want to waste their time doing my collection, and make me go away, rather than hooking me up, taking the donation, then marking the donation bio-hazard type thing once I was out of sight... But all that information I had, was from 11 years ago, and may have well changed since then.. or it might have just been that ONE person who was willing to take on the responsibility of accepting then disposing of my donation, all those years ago, just so that I could feel that I was still a valuable life form and could feel good about myself and being a donor... Who knows for sure anymore..HUGS|)onna, who managed to kinda sorta run over her foot, again, only with her power chair this time!!.. with MS weren't allowed to be donors. Perhaps that has changed by now. SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. • 1 month later...

You are a good mother, Akiba, and Robbin spared you the extra carbs--so he did a gooddeed, too!Love to you both--loved the dog image,nSubject: Not sayin'To: MSersLife , wayofthewingedheart Date: Saturday, September 17, 2011, 5:43 PM

that Robbin is a dog, even though my

personal totem is Wolf...but...

made clam chowder and bread for dinner, the kind (of bread) that

comes in little loaves from Schwans, I got the multi-grain ones

this time. So, Robbin comes out and declared himself full...then

notices that I still have bread left, am, in fact, eating it. So

he drags over a chair and, well...you know how a dog will sit and

watch your food go from your plate to your mouth with intense

focus? I think you're getting the idea....so I gave him the last

bite (greater love hath...)
