Guest guest
Well... If it is indeed the case that this wasn't announced to the community at large (first I've heard of it, as well)... Then we have yet another fine example of NR not caring to be accountable to it's stakeholders. I'm sure the folks at NREMT are quite well aware that the skill sheets are a large part of student preparation for the skills exam. If students are training on outdated sheets, this has the potential to affect their exam score, depending on the examiner, and any changes to the sheets. Would like to know when NREMT starts acknowledging that it's accountable to the various stakeholders, instead of acting like it controls everything in EMS. I'm doubly appalled that the Reps were not informed. Guest guest
I have had NREMT figured out since the beginning. Why should they keep the instructor informed to their requirements, the more people they have fail the more money they make by having the students to retest. This is a for profit business, they don't care about customer satisfaction. They know they have control and we just have to follow. Debbie Fishbeck Re: new NR skills sheets Well... Guest guest
Jane, What webinar did you attend? I too am a NR rep and this was all clearly explained to us in the webinar and has been included in our Rep manuals. Yes there are many changes coming to EMS and EMS education but they are all for the better of our profession. As for the comments regarding the NREMT trying to fail students with new or tricky sheets, any one taught to the national EMS standard should have no problems passing skills what so ever. If we are teaching students to memorize skills sheets and the however many steps necessary to pass are we really teaching them to be critical thinkers who can actually care for patients. And yes Kenny is correct in saying the NREMT is a not for profit organization. > > I had no idea---- > > > > new NR skills sheets > > > > > > I may have missed the post on here because I was gone to Europe for 3 > weeks but I asked around and other instructors and coordinators I spoke > with who I KNOW are on this list said they never saw anything posted > about this so here I go. Guest guest
That just means that every 5th year (I think) they have to show they are under the operating revenue for that year. It doesn't mean they don't or can't make money out the nose the rest of the time, and it doesn't meant that they can't have a huge operating revenue and keep growing to more beauracracy and make and spend more money. Guest guest
, they said in our webinar that changes would be made over the next several years - not immediately (except for the new skills sheets and AEMT) and no other dates were given besides associated with those. And I received my Rep book while I was out of the country so I just got mine. But the Reps seeing those sheets doesn't mean all of the coordinators and instructors know or are notified that the skills sheets have changed. As for the rest, no, teaching to the skills sheets is not the issue. We don't do that. HOWEVER, students need to know the skills sheets so that they can be sure and do the skill in the manner that is expected for testing. Many different ideas for how each skill can be done exist, which means there is room for interpretation by the examiner if a method is not in their particular knowledge base or there is a variance in method that is still correct but with which an examiner is not familiar. This could cause the examiner to mark the student as a fail potentially when the student didn't fail. So knowing the skills sheets also helps the student prepare for the test. As is described in our Rep training and to the examiners during their orientation for a test, yes, there is more than one way to do some skills. But that doesn't mean the examiner will just " know " all those ways. Jane Dinsmore To: texasems-l From: bryan.ericson@... I wasn't making a political comment on the benefits of unfettered capitalism. No " true American " would ever begrudge an organization the ability to make as much money as it possibly can. I was merely correcting the misconception that the NREMT is a for-profit organization. It is not. Kenny Navarro Dallas

Guest guest
So; a question on behalf of everyone about to take these tests: is this change going to be implemented immediately? I was informed during my course that registry would not change skills or written until November, and so I would not need to worry about it. Should I prepare for one or both tests to be different now? Guest guest
Yep - see 'em on the ALS sheets but not the BLS sheets. Thanks. Mg new NR skills sheets I may have missed the post on here because I was gone to Europe for 3 weeks but I asked around and other instructors and coordinators I spoke with who I KNOW are on this list said they never saw anything posted about this so here I go. I came back from Europe to see if NR had posted the new skills sheet for Pediatric Respiratory Compromise for all skills levels on their website yet and then opened a couple of other skills sheets randomly that I needed to send to an instructor and noticed that they were ALSO edited. So then I opened EVERY skills sheet on the NR website under Practice Exam Information. Were you guys aware that almost every skills sheet for BLS and Advanced has been edited in some shape, form or fashion? To see which ones are edited to review, open each one individually and look at the date in the lower right hand column. All new sheets were edited either 05-11 or 06-11 - don't know when they were posted. I am a Rep and STILL didn't know they were posting almost ALL new/edited skills sheets, and I attended the webinar for Reps in April - maybe I just missed that part??? I mean, I knew they told us they were making lots of changes over the next few years, and they told us they were adding new skills sheets but not that they were editing everything now. New skills sheets for sure they told us about are - Pediatric Respiratory Compromise Cardiac Arrest with AED Spinal Immobilization Supine (mandatory) Two new in the Random Basic Skill as possibilities - Long Bone Immobilization and Joint Immobilization I received my new NR Rep book but haven't opened it yet because I just got back in the country but the fact that I was surprised when I went to the website yet again means that I feel like many of you will be surprised. But maybe I am wrong, and you guys knew all this because it was all posted while I was gone and if so, I apologize for wasting your time.
