Guest guest
Hi Heidi The one thing I can think of is that the word 'clean' can mean a brush with toothpaste (at home) [common meaning in the UK] or removal of plaque etc (by the dentist). I know I'm stating the obvious but did understand you to mean toothpaste & brush.and answered accordingly Rog BHR both hips 2001 R Treacy teeth cleaning > > What do you do when your surgeon and your dentist say you don't need > antibiotics for teeth cleaning but other qualified people say you do??? Guest guest
Hi Heidi The teeth cleaning/antibotics issue is a continuous one......... and so often what you, your doctor and dentist make of it all.......... Because of my past I will probably always opt to have antibotics regardless of what they may do to my immune system as it is only a case of once or twice a year............. The bacteria I originally had resisted all normal bacteria anyway......... so I can only hope to kill off new ones in any event......... If you go out into the general population you will find about 7000 different opinions about it all........... and it is pretty easy to find people who have THR prothesis who have not even heard it might be an issue............. I personally know one and he has had many dental procedures without even thinking of antibotics.......... noone told him and apparently his dentist doesn't see it a problem........... Others will have a caution position, others will have hassles with taking antibotics. To me you will simply have to find something you personally feel comfortable with given whatever feelings you have about antibotics, taking chances with prothesis problems and dentist resistance etc........ You may even have to change dentists to feel happy.............. BUT it will end up being something you personally settle on - regardless of how many opinions you seek etc............. and it can change over time......... for as I understand it friendly little characters tend to build up around the prothesis over time which helps keep nasty bugs at bay............... And in general if you have an infection in your body it will show up in blood tests as well as making walking on the prothesis pretty painful......... Infections do tend to make one sick and cause temperature risings.............
