Cindy, I have a terribly itchy scalp - I use a good shampoo, but what kind

do you use?? Thanks!

She is almost five. She has what looks like very bad dandruff and the one

spot where her hair is coming out is the spot she showed me that she

scratches the most she scratches very vigorously. When she scratches her

hair comes out on her hand. I guess being a foster child she is under alot

of stress.

Hi!

I had/have seborrheic dermatitis that itched like crazy and some of my hair

fell out....thought for sure I was going to go bald! Plus I had nasty

dandruff.

Normally I never have these symptoms. It's like cradle cap.

I use a dandruff shampoo with zinc in it, and when it itches intensely use

(a prescription) betamethazone lotion on those spots.

My hair is growing back in again.

It also can be from stress.

There sure are number of causes for itching and bald spots! Guess the only

way to find out for sure, and find some relief for her is to see a doctor.

Hi All:

My 17 yr old dtr also gets this type of dandruff that acturally seems

like large flakes of dry scalp and has a huge amt of hair coming out in

her brush at these times. We thought the shampoo was too drying and

stopped using shampoo at all, just used lots of water to wash the hair

and used liberal amt. of a thick cream rinse. Also only wash hair once

or perhaps twice a week and it subsided.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, Lana. I haven't been on

much...between cleaning, running errands, and the MCP joint of my thumb is doing

it's thing. So I haven't bothered to get on since early last week.

You asked what shampoo I use...it's one I get at the pharmacy. It doesn't need a

prescription- but Head and Shoulders would work just as well. That was one of

them the dermatologist suggested along with the one I use- DHS Shampoo. As long

as the one you use has zinc [parathion zinc 2%] in it.

He had me shampooing every day...but I seldom did it that often because I had

surgery done, and it was way too hard one handed-with the other hand in the air

as I bent over in the sink.

When I shampooed- every other day-I'd wash it twice.

The first time the suds sat on my head for 4 minutes. Then I rinsed and washed

it again, and rinsed out right away without letting it sit there. Seems to work

better like that.

I saw the dermatologist last Monday, and it's all cleared up now, so I wouldn't

need to use it, but I wash with it first, let it sit a minute or two-then use

the shampoo from the beauty salon-[Nexus].

Hope you get some relief from your itchy scalp. I also was prescribed

betamethasone lotion [a cortisone like medication] to put on the itchy/scaly

spots at night when it was so bad. That really helped out.

Hope this helps. :D

Thanks Cindy! I want to make sure I have this right - you use the DHS

Shampoo first? It's not a prescription and it has zinc in it. Then you

used the Nexus? The one I use has 5% coal tar in it, and then I use a body

building shampoo. Both are from Neutrogina and should be good shampoos, but

I still have problems. It could be because I use hair spray?? I wash it

every 2-3 days and much like you do. With the coal tar first, leave it on

for a few minutes, and then the body building shampoo. Regarding the

lotion, would you have to wash your hair the next day after using it?? Any

help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! No hurry at all!

I DO hope you thumb is getting better?!?
