Guest guest
Hi Elinor; With the particular AVN problem you have I'd strongly suggest that you consult Dr DeSmet in Belgium . The fact is that those very few orthopods that do resurfacing in Ontario are not nearly as skilled or experenced as DrDeSmet . Yes,it'll cost but the benefits you'll receive will be more than well worth it . I just had my hip done by DeSmet (March 3,04) and although I'm 73 I'm out golfing, gardening and doing my thing in general . I live in Collingwood Ontario so please feel free to call or email if you wish . Tel # 1 . Fred.
Guest guest
Hi Elinor, If noone pops up immediately there are Canadians who have contributed - so a quick look in the back files.......... Manufacturers of devices will give out doctors names for areas. And yes the femoral head has to have enough good bone left to carry the resurface device. From what I am seeing surgeons in US/Canada tend to be conservative when it comes to cases that are borderline, though the Dr Desmet from Europe takes many on if you have your heart set on a resurface. An email with a copy of xray to him may get you an answer fairly quickly about possibilities though he does seem to be in holidays right now......... Best of luck with it all, Edith LBHR Dr. L Walter Syd Aust 8/02 > I broke my hip over 4 years ago and had a pin and plate put in. Guest guest
As long as there is enough good bone to work with, I dont think the AVN will preclude you from getting a resurfacing. I have AVN and my left femur had collapsed. I was able to get the resurfacing, but if you wait too long, there could be problems.
