Guest guest
I love the church! I am in love with old churches and this one has such a fascinating history. Here is one link I found that mentions the Christmas Eve service. http://www.odcfriends.com/Enjoy your evening, Kate.I love you! SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. I am making spaghetti with meatsauce for dinner, with veggies and garlic bread. Tomorrow's dinner will be an odd combo of deer ribs--someone gave them to my husband, and ham and sweet 'taters. We are resting up to decorate the tree which we traditionally decorate on Christmas eve, then go to 11pm service at the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow---built in 1685--it has been continually in use since that date! You can google and find it. What makes it so special, is that there is no electricity; there is a huge chandelier with about 30 or 40 candles, more or less. There is a big pot belly stove that heats the place. It is very special to worship there.Afterwards, they serve hot cider that has been warming on the stove. When we get home, it will be time to put the presents under the tree, then hit the bed.All of us, except my nearly 12 year old son, like to sleep in, but he is way too excited, and usually gets us up early. We'll have bagels with lox and cream cheese for breakfastSubject: what's going on with everyone? To: "Group" <mserslife >Date: Friday, December 23, 2011, 7:42 PM These are busy days but my thoughts are always with you all. Guest guest
Yes, this is the church, Sharon! Thanks for sending along the link. Christmas eve service was special, though, just about 2/3 of the way through, someone called out, we need a doctor! Someone, I believe, it was a gentleman, passed out. There were 2 EMTs there---at first my son, Luke, got up to go see if there was anyway he could help out--he is CPR certified, though far from EMT/Dr. status. I thought it was nice he thought of even going to help out. Anyway, no one knows exactly what happened. The hospital is literally 5 minutes up the road, so an ambulance was called and he was taken. After he was taken, the service resumed; we didn't get in til nearly 12:30. Lloyd and I didn't get done putting gifts under the tree til about 2.Everyone had a lovely day, everyone receiving what they had asked for, and some things that were nice surprises that hadn't been asked for! Now that my kids are older and working, they treated me/us to special gifts that I wouldn't just buy for myself---like all new bath towels.Time to start trying to clean up and organize the house; it looks likea tornado hit!Hope everyone is having a fun and relaxing day.love to all my friends,KateSubject: what's going on with everyone? To: "Group" <mserslife >Date: Friday, December 23, 2011, 7:42 PM These are busy days but my thoughts are always with you all. Guest guest
That's funny, I got a bath towel too..and in all my life I had never heard of bath towels as a "gift" item...except for the full set of Miss Piggy towels my mother got me about 40 years ago...  Yes, this is the church, Sharon!
