Guest guest
Hi Cait, I am in South Australia. I married a recycled husband, so I have my daughter, a stepson who is 7 years younger than I and a step daughter who is 12 years younger than I. My step son has one 18 year old daughter and at one stage it was very confusing as his wife was older than I and she had 3 children before they met. My step daughter has a daughter who is 14 and a son who is 10. I have been with their grandfather before they were born so my step grandkids all know me as Nanna. And my own daughter produced a son in November 2009 who calls me Grandma. Did you miss me? Thanks to freecycle, I have arisen. I'm afraid I had to do a mass delete but hopefully I'll make some headway reading the web. I only have the slowest speed now and cancelled most of the tv channels as well. So hopefully this will hold up well enough to use for email . Anyway I hope everyone is well and warm! We've snow on the ground and so far I haven't ventured out the door since. Made sure I went to the dr to get refills first so no 'have to' runouts in case of a blizzard. I let my neighbor Ross use my garage for one of his cars in return for him handling my snow. I thought it was a good deal and would save having to run all the way over here with his snow plow. He was a little miffed because he was going to put his boat in there. But it's just as well since he's hurt his right arm and can't shovel the stairs, etc. I really can't think of what I've been doing so obviously nothing exciting. I tried to get some kind of job because I'm having a hard time getting by on a pension of $35/mo! For any Canadians, that's my CPP which is so small, I can't qualify for CPP Disability. So moral of that is if you work for a family business, take friggin' deductions for yourself! Anyway I've been reading a lot ... Sharon, did you see Grafton has V for Vengeance out? I've also got a new grandson who I've yet to see even though the hospital is right down the street from me. My daughter didn't even tell me she had a C-section scheduled for Hallowe'en so when I got the call from my son-in-law I was at first worried that they were okay and then hurt. Before I stopped reading FB I could see how often she came into town for various reasons besides doctor's visits. And never once did she call to say hello or 'would you like to go out for lunch'. Believe me she was not brought up that way; my mother was alone and had health problems and I called and visited all the time. Maybe I'm being oversensitive and maybe is right ... I get to see Sonya some time in the Christmas holidays to give her her gifts, some time around her birthday to give her her gifts. And if I'm really lucky, sometimes around Easter to give her gifts. Anyway it hurts and I've been in the dumps about that. Happier thoughts ... is the holiday exchange still open? ... hugs, Cait
Guest guest
You have a wonderfully unique family, . How are you enjoying being a grandma? Do you see them often? Whereabouts exactly do you live? Sorry, but I'm just a nosy sort!blessings,Kate To: MSersLife Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2011 12:32 AM Subject: Re: Welcome to Hi Cait, I am in South Australia. Guest guest
Hi Kate, I live in a town north of Adelaide in South Australia, called . I do enjoy being a Nanna and Grandma. There are the moments my clumsiness have almost led to tragedy but thankfully they are few. I first became a Nanna in my 30s and that certainly felt odd. We did not see a lot of Olivia who was born in 1993. Stepson and his then wife used her as a bargaining chip, and if they were pleased with us we would be invited or get a visit. At the time both Gordon and I were still working and my own daughter was 9. I stood ready to help out with babysitting but that wasn't what her mother wanted from us - so we did not see much of this first grandchild until my stepson won custody. We do not see much of Olivia now. She is a prickly complicated child (at 18!) who currently plans to move to another state to live with the girlfriend she found through Facebook. (this girlfriend is currently visiting her) Olivia was diagnosed as ADHD. was born in 1997 when her Auntie Sue had just turned 13. Around that time my stepdaughter was helping out by looking after Sue during the school holidays and then some before school care...so Sue almost raised her niece for the first few months. seemed to take a while to recover from the birth and would get up for long enough to let Sue into the house - then would surface in time for lunch. Sue did not mind at all - she would get up, feed her, change diapers when required, and put the Lion King video on, play with her and sing to her. Even at 3 weeks of age was mesmerised by the Lion King! By the time Sue's school holidays were over was getting up a little earlier. Sue and were quite strongly bonded by then. Needless to say we saw a LOT more of during her infancy! even had sleepovers at my house which has only happened a couple of times with Olivia in the past 18 years. arrived in 2001 during my BIG MS attack. So there was not as much time with him during babyhood and infancy. By then my daughter was competing in the big Karaoke competitions (my fault) and doing quite well - 12th in Australia one year - and was doing her best to copy her Auntie Sue. arrived in 2009 and I have spent more time with him than the other three combined - especially as I had been 'retired'. I have been baby sitting him every second Saturday but this is changing as his father's work roster has now changed so it is now very rare that my daughter and her husband are both working on the weekend. I am a little sad - and a little relieved. He is two now and fast on his feet, so by the time we get back from the park I am exhausted. All four grandkids are very different. Olivia is around my height (5 foot 3) but very skinny. She has no patience with the education process and I think it will take her a very long time to find her niche in this world. She has taken exception to and from birth. (how dare they even be born!) is around 5 foot 8 inches tall and I think she has a couple more inches of growth coming. She is probably a size 18 to 20 and has looked much older than her age for the past few years. Her singing has come along nicely and I actually expected to see her in 'Australia's Got Talent' this year. We like many of the same books, movies, foods and TV series and so she still likes the occasional sleepover. She is good at her schoolwork and recently received a certificate of merit for academic achievement this year. She is the most open and affectionate of the stepgrandkids. She has a lot of friends. is 10 now and seems to be a lot like his Uncle . He is smart - and a smart alek. He seems to be artistic rather than scholastic. He has been collecting girlfriends since toddlerhood, in fact he gave my daughter's husband a very hard time when Sue and were courting as he felt that Sue was his already! He is possibly borderline Asperger's but has not been assessed. is two now and seems fairly small for his age - but very bright, cheeky and charming. He has had a few challenges already - he had a severe reaction to one of his vaccinations and is allergic to penicillin but so far he is the cuddliest of the bunch. His favourite movie so far is 'Cars' which usually is played at least once a day (a bit like was with 'The Lion King') Did you miss me? Thanks to freecycle, I have arisen. I'm afraid I had to do a mass delete but hopefully I'll make some headway reading the web. I only have the slowest speed now and cancelled most of the tv channels as well. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing all about the kids, . I found it 'good reading'. It's as though I had a history lesson on each of them. Sounds like (love that name) is the apple of his grandma's eye!How is your MS these days? What, if any, meds are you on? MS meds, that is--any of the CRAB-T's? Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex, Beteseron, Tysabri? As usual, I'm nosy, and wanting to know about how you manage your MS.Keep up the emails, I enjoy them.blessings,Kate To: MSersLife Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2011 4:18 PM Subject: Re: Welcome to Hi Kate, I live in a town north of Adelaide in South Australia, called . Guest guest
Hi Kate, thus far my medication has been limited to some antidepressants very early followed by antianxiety meds, blood pressure medication and some puffers. There were patches where I was fearful of sleeping even though exhausted ......I was convinced I would stop breathing. A few years ago I withdrew from all my meds but messed that up last year when my husband had a heart attack - so I went on Champix to try to stop smoking. Big mistake. Not only did I feel like I was fully capable and ready to commit violence and murder (I am normally very pacifist) but I had a tooth extracted and the anaesthetic reacted with the Champix. My morning temperature dropped to 34.4c and I have been using Lugol's to drag it up a little. So far I have managed to get to about 36.2c - higher if I am really unwell.. And for all that I did not stop smoking. Guess I need a pacifier. I have a lot of supplements here, and sometimes I even take them. I obtained some kefir culture and at one stage I was having kefir-cultured milk daily. Initially burped like crazy but have not required antacids since starting so think they sorted out some stomach problems. My culture is currently resting in the fridge. For a while I was taking green smoothies (ala Boutenko) daily and while I did my hair and skin was wonderful. I decided I needed to do something for me as since his heart attack my husband has insisted on more refined foods and less fruit and vegetables - contrary to medical advice. (stubborn old *** ). Green smoothies look like pond scum but taste like fruit and are the only way I can eat raw leafy greens. I am seeing my neurologist in April and will ask for LDN. Since discovering that MS symptoms are almost identical to those of mercury toxicity I have refused flu shots and other offered vaccinations - and have had less colds and flu than previously! Zinc and C lozenges, Cod Liver Oil (yuck) and Olive Leaf Extract abbreviate the misery when I do feel a cold developing. Since reading about a connection between Epstein Barr/glandular fever, low serum D3 and MS I have tried to increase my sun exposure even though my skin patch pigments quite quickly. Had a BCC removed from near my eye a couple of years ago. I have sent off for some K2 as I have also discovered that higher D3 needs to be balanced with A, E and K2. Once I have it I can supplement with D3 capsules. I did have glandular fever at 14 and a whole raft of vaccinations when I started a DipN course at 18 - anecdotally my MS started not long after those vaccinations. Rambling a little as had a really bad night last night.
Guest guest
I tried Kefir and just could NOT do it! My 42 year old daughter grows Kefir to use for her and family and also to feed to her chickens. I have had good luck though with naturally fermented cabbage. I had so many stomach issues with pain and gassy "stuff" until I started making and eating a little natural sauerkraut every day. hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, There is non-dairy kefir culture which can turn your fruit juices, coconut water and ginger water into very pleasant effervescent probiotic drinks. Slightly alcoholic. A little fussier than the dairy kefir as it does require a source of calcium like crushed coral or egg shells. Pop a request in through your local freecycle if you are interested in trialling it. I stopped making this as it was so effervescent I'd often lose a lot when I opened the bottle! Livelier than carbonated drinks and naturally lower in sugar. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Did you miss me? Thanks to freecycle, I have arisen. Guest guest
I couldn't do Kefir either. I did have some success with Kombucha but that's the only one I have, that I can do, but kefir just was a lost cause for me. ~*~ Akiba ~*~ Pragmatic Visionary -- Re: Welcome to Hi Kate, thus far my medication has been limited to some antidepressants very early followed by antianxiety meds, blood pressure medication and some puffers.
