Guest guest
I'm so sorry to read about all the MD in your family. I admit not knowing much about it and used to get MD and MS mixed up. Does this mean that your little great nephew is exhibiting symptoms now? Can they identify the gene and check other family members as well? ... hugs, Cait They have a form of Becker's MD. The kind my three nephews have didn't really show up until very late teens/early 20s. My great nephew who was just diagnosed has Beckers. It sounds like you are familiar with MD since you asked what form they have. hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. What form of MD do they have?Tina I have three nephews with Muscular Dystrophy. Well I should say "two" because one of the boys committed suicide. The "boys" are 50 and 52 now. The 50 year old, Greg, has a grandson named Sam. Greg just took Sam to be tested and the results are in-- Sam also has MD. Sam just turned 6 last week. I feel sad for Sammy. Sammy doesn't know yet. How do you tell a 6 year old something like that? Please keep Sam and his family in your prayers. hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Actually, I don't know a whole lot, other than it can be in different forms. I know that when Hawking was diagnosed, he was told he would be dead in two years. It's now been 20+ years, and he's still going, although with a lot of help. I know that your nephews, like anyone with a chronic disease has to have great courage. The MDA drives every year tend to focus on the kids affected, like with Duchenne's, rather than adults. I pray for courage when they tell your great nephew his diagnosis. I hope that he can adapt quickly, as children generally adapt quicker and better than adults sometimes.Tina They have a form of Becker's MD. Guest guest
Yes, my little gr-gr nephew Sammy is exhibiting some symptoms now. He is 6 years old and can't run as far, as fast and tires very easily. That's why his grampa Greg (my nephew with MD) decided to take Sammy to the MD Center in his city. Their particular MD gene is identified and it's only the males that get it. The girls can be carriers. Most of the girls in the family have been tested to see if they are carriers. Sammy's mom was not tested. hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Little Sammy will have a great role model in his grampa Greg. Greg lives life to the fullest, travels, was riding a snow mobile until a few years ago.... hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
That is a dilemma, isn't it? My oldest brother is the one who had the 3 sons with MD. He also had 4 daughters. Several of my nieces were tested by their choice to see if they carried the gene. One great niece was tested and was found to carry the gene. She had a baby girl by sex selection. That was a very costly procedure for her. I don't know if she will decide to have more children.Of the three original nephews with MD one is the grampa of Sammy and he only has two daughters. One of the nephews had no children of his own but instead raised two stepkids. The youngest of the three original nephews took his own life without knowing his girlfriend was pregnant. She had a boy who just turned 18. As far as I've heard Zak shows no signs of MD.It is a big decision to make---whether to have a boy knowing the odds of the genetics.
