Guest guest
Dear Texas EMS community- After becoming a EMT Basic in 1976 (First shift was July 4th, the Bicentennial of our nation), a Paramedic in 1979 and up to today, I have been certified at some level in EMS. My licensure ends at the end of this month and I have decided that it is time to let it rest. While I am still active in EMS through the BAAS in EMS Management program I direct and the National Fire Academy FESHE EMS Higher Ed Committee, I no longer see myself being in a position to perform as a paramedic. I do not regret the years I have been a responder and I must admit, there is a twinge of nostalgia and a sense of loss for letting this chapter close. However, there are many more chapters left to write and I know that EMS will be a part of them for many years to come. I will remain a member of the list, to keep up with life in Texas EMS - you can never just walk away. This 'Dino-medic' isn't wandering into the swamps to lay down completely - I will keep a first aid and CPR card, just to cover myself at the accident I might encounter. I thank all of you for your advice, comradeship and humor. We are an extended family and I still look upon these as some of the best experiences of my life - Lawrence A.
