Guest guest
The weather here has been pleasant. At least, I'm not going to complain about it. We've had a few days here and there where it's been in the 90s; but, mostly it's been 70-80ish. My first physical therapy appointment is the 27th. The physical therapist thinks that she can fix my balance and that should help keep me on my feet. It seems to me that I've heard that before. I am still searching for a dog to train as an assistance dog. On my behalf, the Northwest Fair Housing Alliance is in negotiations with my housing provider. I have a verification letter from my Independent Living Specialist. The Housing Specialist thought that it would help my case if I got additional support. But, she also said that it won't hurt my case if I don't. The Nurse Practitioner called me on Thursday, maybe Friday. She said that she recognizes that I am disabled; and, she would be okay with me getting a dog if I just wanted a companion animal. However, she doesn't think that dogs should be classified as " Durable Medical Equipment " and certainly should not be used to help me get up from the ground. After I talked with the nurse practitioner, I called Disability Resources and talked with ann. She said that she had her dog with her at work, so I just went done to the office so I could see Jake in person. I told ann what the NP had said. Then, I actually got on the floor and demonstrated to ann how I would be using a dog to help me up. Only, I used the wastebasket instead. She said that Gretchen could help write a letter to see if we could bring the NP around. Marcus is still not riding in the car. He walks. If he had to go to Yakima, I have a feeling Yakima would have to come to him. He won't ride in the car. He said that If I bought him this electric guitar that he wants to use with Garage Band, he would start riding in the car again. Now, I know I've heard a similar song and dance routine sometime after Marcus stopped going to middle school, before he got his Autism diagnosis. Personally, it doesn't matter to me if he rides in the car, or not. We live in a small city, where most places are 2 miles or less away from where we live. One thing Marcus did a few days before the last Parent to Parent meeting I went to: He walked down to the library to turn in some movies and check more out, then he stopped at Boogie Man Music to ask the guy working to show him the least expensive guitar. When he got home, Marcus told me what he had done. He said that he only said one thing to the guy and even told me the question that he asked. For Marcus to talk to anybody that he does not know is quite an accomplishment. Nick continues to have problems with a rapid heart rate. But, he has a history of anxiety so that's what the medical practitioner wants to attribute the rapid heart rate to. The odd thing is, the rapid heart rate seems to trigger an anxious response, especially since Nick can feel the changes in his heart rate. You know there is Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and Gamblers Anonymous. I wonder if there is such a thing as Netflix Anonymous?
