Guest guest
Oh, Akiba, I'm so, so, sorry. It seems like the more we depend on computers, the sooner they break down. I don't know what I would do without mine - of course it better not break down because hubby just built it 9 months ago. But I also recall when my son's computer got a root kit (like a virus) and it took a couple of weeks for hubby to get it straightened out. Did you say smoke was coming out the back? Open up the case and see if there are any burnt parts. You may be able to salvage some parts off of it if it is dead though. (We have more parts sitting around here than a computer store from systems that our family have " given " to my husband after the systems died.....we have a computer graveyard.) *hugs*Tina Well, the worst has happened. My PC is dead. I mean, irretrievably dead. So until I win the lotto or someone decides they trust me enough to loan me some $$, and is ABLE to do so, or I can save enough to get one, I am going to have to use Robbin's. Which sucks. Now that I finally will have my finances more in order, *poof* And I can't get my incredimail to work so it looks like I am going to have to spend a lot of time getting stuff running on this unit the way I like, or close enough. Maybe next month I will be able to afford to have the guy come look at it, see if it is not fixable, but I think smoke coming out of the back is a pretty good indicator that she's dead, Jim.. I have recently made a local friend (finally, only been here a year!), will see if I can get her to take it to the guy in town, he won't charge me the $50 fee, just charge to look at it. We will see. And of *COURSE* it is Mercury Retrograde...*sigh* ~*~Akiba~*~ Pragmatic Visionary ISIS! ISIS! RA-RA-RA! Guest guest
Capacitors are little brown cylindars - if they are bulging on either end, they are bad, and could be the cause of your problem. Especially if they are sooty. But look for anything sooty. It could be that you ended up burning up dust that had accumulated (I'm horrible about cleaning out the inside of my system - hubby yells at me since we are in the dustiest room in the house, practically. Unfortunately if it was a capacitor(s) you are stuck, I think replacing the electrical components would be a hassle some just don't want to do for fear of messing them up even worse. If it's not one thing --it's a dozen others. I may soon be in the same boat with ya because my laptop is overheating and getting slower and slower, shuts itself off sometimes... stuff like that. I think it may be the motherboard. (I hope I didn't say that out loud....) I'll be thinking about you!hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. I have recently made a local friend (finally, only been here a year!), will see if I can get her to take it to the guy in town, he won't charge me the $50 fee, just charge to look at it. We will see. Guest guest
For $299 I can get a nice cheepy but nice pc, no monitor but I have a nice one. SO if my Lladro' eBay auction sells I can get that one or even one a little nicer. Keep your fingers crossed. Meanwhile the stress is bringing on a lovely ocular migraine. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions Tina. My laptop is a defective Acer Inspire. A common problem with them is the overheating. I sent it for "repair" several times but they always said it was fine. We did this over and over until the warranty expired. But it's not fine:) I do have a fan blowing on it but it doesn't help. It just gets worse and worse. Don't ever buy an Acer! lolhugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
