I've had a lost puppy here and have found the owners. Sometime today they will pick him up. I truly believe this pup has EDS. I do know dogs can have it. He looks to be 4 months old (I figure by his teeth). I have had dogs all my life and have never seen a dog this flexible. He sits with his legs in all directions and his front shoulders sometimes bow out when he drinks. He has lots of little scars all over him, like his skin has been injured way to easily. His dew claws are broke and just hanging, and his skin is so stretchy. There is something very different about this dogs body. I'm going to write down the name of the disorder and give it to the owners. Hopefully if they have problems down the road, they can give it to the vets and figure out what is wrong. If this sweet little boy does have EDS is just so strange that he ended up here. 3 families have already asked to have him if the owners weren't found. He is just the sweetest little boy. Cindylouwho I have a Chinese Sharpei................ the ones with all the wrinkles. Ajia is our 2nd one. It is commonly believed, that they have a form of EDS. Think about these traits in Sharpei's.... They have all of the extra skin that allows for the wrinkles. The skin is VERY stretchy. They did come from China & the skind is so stretchy that they were bred as Guard type dogs. They protected the palaces & one trait they still have is that they " guard " , but they guard their owners.... we seem to have misplaced our palace. But seriously, the skin is so plentiful & stretchy, that when they guarded the ancient Chinese palaces, they could literally have been attacked by another dog from the front & turn all the way around (because the skin stretched so far), that they could then re-attack the dog or whatever, that attacked them. People stop us all the time & ask about her & the skin, traits, etc., as there aren't that many pure breds, here in this country & haven't even been, officially in the AKC for very long. A lot of people have also asked about their names, so I'll give you a " quikie " Our first doggie child, we called " Cookie " . It was short for, " Fortune Cookie " . We named her that because all real Fortune Cookies, have good fortunes & good things inside of them & are sweet. Her color was called " fawn " . We sadly lost her a little over a year ago & honestly, I love Ajia more then anything, but it doesn't make the loss of another, go away. Our 2nd doggie child, we call " Ajia " . It is short for " Ajia Vu " , which is like the term " Deja Vu " (as in, we did it all over again, even though we swore we wouln't.) And, is similar to the continent of Asia, because she's Chinese. She's a redhead, has the same basic skin things & basic traits but as with most dogs, a very different personality, very much a redhead! I shall try to put in their pictures, if not you can go to a Sharpei site & you can see if this puppy looks like he may be a purebred or simply a mix. Although, most Sharpei's that you see today are purebreds, because they haven't been here very long & are bred very carefully & many people do that as a business, as they could be very, very expnsive. Though Ajia's Daddy is a National Chamption & Mommy is a state Chamption & was " ring ready " when we got her, we are not into showing dogs, though some are & we had her spayed, which definitely finishes off any chance that she can be entered into any major AKC events. We just like Sharpei's & since I'm home alone a lot, I feel really protected with her around. She always positions herself between me & someone she doesn't know. And, even if I'm, for instance laying on my bed, she'll lay between me & the door, or on the floor, in front of the door, even inside the house! They are very territorial & don't cope well with other dogs coming around & sort of thinks that anything she can see from our house, is her territory. It can be really funny, but does keep people at bay, which someimes comes in handy, but someimes not. In our old house, we had a pharmacy that used to deliver to the house all the time & the driver, a very big adult male, never even used to come up onto our little entryway into the house, which was all of 2 steps up. He used to stay at the bottom & reach all the up to me, so he didn't have to come up the 2 steps & be that close to the front door, where you know who was waiting, looking as vicious as can be. What he wouln't beleive is that she would have probably just licked him to death. We have trained them both to be protective, but neither have ever even come close to " going after " any one or any other dog. BUT, I do beleive that if anyone really did come after me, especially me, that she would go after that person & I don't think I'd want to be them. Here are their pics. (They are often also mistaken for Pit Bulls & dogs like that too, which scares people as well) AJIA
