Ted: My understanding is that you would have to get MSP to send you

to Ontario to get it covered and I suspect you would still have pay

the $3000.00 you have to pay here. I think it is also covered in

Quebec but again MSP would have to send you there because you can't

get it done here in a timely fashion. My experience then is that

since it is not an " approved " procedure here they will tell you no and

that if you want surgery sooner you could get a thr from a different

doctor. It's always worth asking and checking out the MSP website

for more information. If you can get your doctor to say that you

must have this procedure and sooner rather than later they might

agree, but getting the doctors to say that is pretty tough.

We went to Belgium because although we were told 18-24 months, I had

actually spoken to people who had been on the list for 2 years and

still didn't have date. We were not prepared to wait. What might

go in your favour is that if you are an ideal candidate some of the

doctors are pushing resurfacings a little faster so they can get it

" approved " (at least that seems to be what is happening) so you might

get your call sooner - I suppose it depends on how many other ideal

candidates are ahead of you.

Which doctor are you going to. It may be that Dr. Smit in white rock

as a shorter list - not sure but might be worth checking.

Good luck - if you decide to head of to Belgium, let me know if we can

be of any help.

Thanks Pamela. I will check out Dr Smits in White Rock. The $3,000

seems to be well worth it. I do not need that large flat plasma

T.V. yet!

Ted: Garbuz, Greidainus, Masri and Duncan are all in the same office

and all have incredibly long lists - hopefully Smit will be able to

help you sooner
