Guest guest
I finally made the decision to have my hip looked at by a resufacing specialist a few months back after discussion on this forum. I'm want to go to JRI due to proximity. I had XRays taken again and then called JRI. I was informed that I need to have a referal from one of my OS's inorder to cover the JRI costs, I think it was 300.00 US. So I went back to my primary, got a referal to see a local OS on my plan. I'm scheduled to see him next week. I'm really not seeing him for his medical opinion this time because I know that most of them have been biased about resufacing in the past. What I was hoping to find out from everyone is how do I get him to refer me to JRI even though he will probably be against the procedures? Its not the end of the line obviously but it would be nice to have some of the costs covered. Lately it seems that I always have to go outside my plan to get the care I need! Guest guest
... I'm still waiting for my billing from JRI (had a consultation with Dr. Amstutz on May 4), so I hardly qualify as an expert...but, because I'd tracked them down on the internet...they wrote " internet " on the referral line, and seemed to think that would be enough for the insurance company. You might go the JRI website and get Chuck ' e-address or his phone number...and contact him to find out how it works. He -- and the others there -- have been quite helpful to me so far. Good luck.. Ask JRI for a list of orthopedists that they know are " resurfacing friendly " , and find one that is on your plan. Perhaps Chuck would be able to assist you with that? Then go to THAT orthopedist and ask for a referral to JRI. I kind of did the same thing, but mine was for a referral to any orthopedist in my plan. Dr. Boyd is in my plan, so I went to a new primary care doc and told him Dr. Boyd was my ortho and I needed a referral from him. Didn't mention resurfacing at all, as I really didn't care about his opinion. Got my referral, and since then have converted my PCP to a resurfacing aficionado.
