Guest guest
I finally made the decision to have my hip looked at by a resufacing specialist a few months back after discussion on this forum. I'm want to go to JRI due to proximity. I had XRays taken again and then called JRI. I was informed that I need to have a referal from one of my OS's inorder to cover the JRI costs, I think it was 300.00 US. So I went back to my primary, got a referal to see a local OS on my plan. I'm scheduled to see him next week. I'm really not seeing him for his medical opinion this time because I know that most of them have been biased about resufacing in the past. What I was hoping to find out from everyone is how do I get him to refer me to JRI even though he will probably be against the procedures? Its not the end of the line obviously but it would be nice to have some of the costs covered. Lately it seems that I always have to go outside my plan to get the care I need! Guest guest
I just asked. Although my insurance company didn't request a referral and second opinions are suggested. Good Luck! Pamela bilat C+ 5/10/2004 Schmalzried

Guest guest
, I think that if you are able to discuss with knowledge why you think that resurfacing is in your best interest, your OS should be willing to give you a referral (as long as you don't insult him, the device he would rather use or THR in general). In my case, my OS volunteered to give me a referral during my second visit with him. He had his opinions and reservations against resurfacing but I think that he realized that I was not comfortable with a THR and what surgeon wants to operate on someone that does not believe in the device that he prefers to implant. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Ask around to find an OS that is open minded and willing to accept new technology.
