They are USUALLY raised for their wool, like sheep they are shorn and the wool carded and sold. Not for meat.

.. Altho they're kind of stinky, I was surrised at how friendly they are. Now please tell me what people raise them for .... and please say not for the slaughterhouse ... hugs, Cait

My update

...Now this is the highlight of the whole week so shows how boring my life is <g>. But today I got to feed the llamas. There's a building out in the country, no people there but some adorable and friendly llamas. We were going that way to buy some local strawberries so I brought some feed for them. My favorite is a dark chocolate brown (Rufus to me), then Rusty a sort of henna color one. Smoky is gray and the beige ones are Sleepy, Wimpy, Nosy and Skittles. Now got me worried when he asked what are they raising them for? I never even considered they'd be slaughtered beforee :(.

Last night I heard noises and tried to tell myself it was just my imagination. Today I was talking to Ross, neighbor, and Maureen, his wife on Wednesday, heard them too. He apparently looked out and saw my sensor light in the driveway was on. Nice neighbour, he had fixed it without my even knowing it.

It's been too hot lately and my feet and even my right leg are swollen. We barbecued steaks at 's, had fresh asparagus and corn, made potato salad, and I pigged out on ice cream I found in his freezer.

And that's about it with nothing planned for the week except to be home all day on Tuesday for the alarm installation and getting after insurance ... hugs, Cait

Thank you and yes they were recently sheared (shorn?). I just remembered seeing goat, reindeer, etc. meat for sale in Toronto. I wish I could smuggle one of them home cause they're so friendly ... hugs, Cait

They also make excellent guard-critters for sheep flocks, etc. Apparently a

couple of llamas will kick the sh*t out of coyotes.

People keep llamas for their fiber (for spinning) and as livestock protection. Llamas will protect other farm animals and can be quite intimidating. Our llamas protected our goats, ducks, chickens and rabbits. What sweet animals! I have never, ever heard of anyone eating llamas.hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product.
