Guest guest
, I wouldn't call myself a serious practitioner. I do ashtanga practice at home 4 - 5 times a week. I turned to yoga in my fight against this darned disease. I see how wonderful it is for my body and so I plug away at it religiously, but my don't it just kill those hips?! I also find it a little daunting sometimes that my goal with yoga and OA is to deteriorate more slowly. (An admirable goal, but a little on the depressing side). I have not had resurfacing, but I am thinking on it very hard. I am just recently getting bone on bone so I think I have a little while to go. I don't know about yoga after resurf. I suspect a good deal of it depends on a successful resurf and your condition/strength/ROM going in. There are some dancers, martial artists and probably yoga people here as well and I will be interested in their stories also. Yoga Journal website has a good article on yoga after THR which although different might be a good read. You may also wish to search the archives for dancers and martial artists as well as yoga. All I know is that yoga becomes more painful and limited everyday. Someday, I hope to know what it is like to do yoga without that knife of fire in my groin. Your friend in the same boat, Amy PS. Guest guest
Yoga, and pretty much anything else you're struggling to hang on to preoperatively is a pleasure to recover after resurfacing. Go for it! Regards, Steve Vince Bilat BHR De Smet Jan 6, 2004 > I have just learned about the possibilities of hip resurfacing....all > new to me as of yesterday. Wow. I just started it (don't ask me what kind--at this point it is all the same to me), and am hoping it will help me increase my ROM which was almost non-existent pre-op. It is hugely improved, but not where I want it to be, so I'm hoping this will help. I have no concerns with any of the poses I'm doing. So I'm the other end of the spectrum from the serious practitioners. Cindy C+ 5/25/01 and 6/28/
