Dr. J. u and Articular Surface Replacement by J&J

I do not want to wait the 1 yr in Vancouver (Canada) for a hip

resurfacing lest I flatten out the bulb too much. I notified Dr.

u at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal(Canada).

He was the first to perform the latest generation resurfacig

inplants in Norh America in Feb 2004. It is the articular surface

replacement (ASR) from and . I was notified that the

hospital bills my British Columbia Medical Plan and the cost is

covered. His waiting list is no longer than 6 months. I am going

to send him my Xrays and then make an appointment if the indicators

are good. I suspect that because and Corin have been

approved for trials in the U.S., that Canada has alternative

companies encouraging their prosthesis. The 4 doctors in Vancouver

are using the Durom prosthesis by Zimmer. I would have to go in

January of 2005 by myself. Would going by myself be O.K.? Any

feedback from this great group would be appreciated. Dr. u?

Ted did MSP actually tell you that they would cover this cost. If so

this is great news. We were told that it would only be covered if we

couldn't get it done in BC. We would have had to have a doctor here

write a letter saying it could not be done in time anywhere in BC and

in fact that we had to have resurfacing , ie that a THR was not an

acceptable procedure! MSP's argument at the time was that a thr was

the " gold standard " and in fact it could be done in BC, although we

would have had to go to a different doctor. Thanks, but no thanks.

If there are in fact willing to pay the whole cost then things are

improving because back then we would have had to contribute $3,000.00

each because the device was not approved.

Thanks for your assurance re the Articular Surface Replacement used by Dr.

u in Montreal. I am sending him a digital disc of my Xrays soon.

Anybody else have Dr. u? He has done 20 since Feb. 2004.
