Guest guest
1heartbeat transportation serviceJOB /EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS: Current /Active EMT license  **Ambulance Driver Only** must meet additional requirements * Must be 21 or older * once hired must obtain an emergency driver permit from city of Dallas * Any ideas as to who this " new " service is? Seems that one pops up at least once a week for Dallas. This was posted to craigslist wayne
Guest guest
I could be wrong, but I believe it's a Houston-based transfer service that's opening up in the Dallas market. At least that's what I heard last week. Unconfirmed rumor. Guest guest
But.....why would they be advertising for Drivers only? Sort of makes me wonder who will be in the back with the patient. " You must be an EMT, with an E-permit, but you can do nothing but drive " that just sounds ........ODD. Actually sounds like a cool gig, NO paperwork WOO HOO! But still...... just seems odd. Guest guest
I believe that when medics ride all calls the emt loses his continual assessment skills critical to their career. I am a paramedic and have been almost nine years and although I work in a 911 city service where 10 calls is a good day usually more and we ride all calls i believe em ta lose skills. Just an opinion. Guest guest
At the risk of starting an uproar.....please don't.....but are you implying that an EMT-B is " not " a medic? Yeah....true, most basics, especially the ones on transfer units that have never even seen a 911 situation, are rarely " medic " quality EMT's.....but as a basic, I have had to prevent a Paramedic from giving a diabetic a D50, who already had a blood sugar of 180. I have also stopped a Paramedic from D/C'ing a line, just because she wanted to get home, and the patient's care taker was running late.....so we could leave the patient by herself. Just because someone is a basic, does not mean they are more or less a " medic " than someone of a different colored patch.....just my opinion. Not trying to start an argument, but just as Paramedics save lives, EMT's sometimes save Paramedics. On a basic truck, I have several " saves " , there are many more " basics " that have the same. In my opinion, it is your experience level, and ability to act when needed that makes you a " Medic " Not the color of your patch. Guest guest
This type servce is common here in phoenix area. Interfacility transfers are either BLS (2 emt's, giving them opportunities to hone assessment and documentation skills), ALS where the medic is always in the back, or Critical Care where a nurse and medic are in the back with the patient. Works pretty well, the emt's have opportunities to improve their skills in preparation for attending medic academies. Don't know how it works in texas though. Just a thought Joanna B. Guest guest
Joanna, In Texas Critical Care Paramedics can do almost all of the things that nurses can do. Arizona is in the dark ages in EMS. I can go on, but I won't. I have nothing against nurses, but the notion that Paramedics can't, for example, push fentanyl, is a concept that makes no sense, but typical of the AZ attitude, along with the base hospital concept, state mandated protocols, and so forth. Guest guest
This is where a mentoring program would benefit those motivated Basics and intermediates to want to learn more. If all you ever do is drive you will become complacent and will eventually stop learning. Medicine is a discipline that involves continual learning and understanding. I am blessed that I had numerous mentors that encouraged and challenged me to advance and never stop learning. Guest guest
I would be more curious of business practices and past performance as an indication of what the Dallas market should expect from them as their standard. That is actually a rhetorical question as I'm not searching for flames on the company. Advertising job openings on Craigslist for EMTs, Paramedics, Dispatchers, Supervisors, Investors are all common. More so in some areas than others. If that is where you reach the interested party, so be it. A quick Google search offers the following. All is public information and easily located.
