Guest guest
Hi , I was referred to my OS through my GP. My arthroscopy was done on the NHS by Professor in January but I am having the resurf done privately because the waiting list is so long on the NHS. (9 - 12 months). Professor explained the processes and procedures very clearly and I also have been on the internet and obtained lots of information that way. I am paying a fixed price, including any further ops needed if complications should arise. I hope paying all that money is worth it! Guest guest
Hi no problems at all. Its a bit of a long story about how I ended up with Mr Villar so I will just summarize. 9 years ago I was still playing semi-pro football and at the start of the season developed what I thought was a groin strain. I went to a physio for about 4 months but that didnt help at all. Then one of my work colleagues suggested that maybe it was something to do with my skeleton(lower back) that was causing the problem. He suggested I booked an appointment with the London School of Osteopathy in Docklands. I work in London so it was quite convenient. I went to see them an few times and they did help improve the situation but not a lot. In the end they sent me for an X-ray and it was then that they discovered I had OA in my right hip. It was the LS of Osteopathy that then referred me to Mr Villar saying that he was the bet person in the UK to see. I went to see Mr Villar and he performed an Arthroscopy(key-hole surgery to clear out debris in the joint) on my hip in June 96. This did improve things but not sufficiently to return to football unfortunately. Anyway every year since I have been to see Mr Villar for an X-ray and review of my situation. It was Mr Villar who initially talked to me about resurfacing and subsequently I have looked into th procedure on the internet. Anyway finally after 8 years he decided I needed something done so I could retain my level of fitness. Fortunately I have BUPA membership through my company, however I did ask Mr Villar what the cost would be if BUPA would not cover it. He said that the cost would be around the £8000.00 mark. I can assure that it is well worth it, the differnce is amazing not only because of the things you are able to once again do but also the differnce in how you feel in yourself. You end up a much more confident and positive person. After my six week review (12th July) I was told I should be able to return to most sports but should really steer clear of things like Squash or Badminton. Hope this all helps . By the way at my review I was talking with another consultant and he told me that Mr Villar does actually perform some national health resurfs. Last point. The hospital is the Cambridge Lea. If you are on the A14 turn off towards Histon (B1049 I think)the entrance to Histon Football Club is immediately before the first set of traffic lights. Immediately after the lights take the next right. Go down this road for about 100 yards and the entrance to Cambridge Lea is on your right. Good luck with everything.
