I'm surprised. I happen to know that around this time (mid to late 1970s)
the XVIII Airborne Corps had a damn good drill team as well. One would think
that someone with that kind of background would have been found out and
tagged over to the drill team.

Back in the early 70's my brother was in the Army ROTC at Waltrip H.S.
(Class of '73) in Houston and his corp and some of the other high
schools were really getting into the fancy drill stuff. It was amazing
to watch. He said they had one problem when they were trying to toss
rifles over the platoon from corner to corner....when they attached the
bayonets the front guys were turning their heads to see the incoming
rifle. But he outgrew that stuff and went into the 101st Airborne right
after graduation.

I graduated from BT and AIT in 1979...a bit before that dance came out.
I do know of a couple of squads at Ft Sill at the time that did a
similar
fancy rifle drill, albeit in proper uniform.
