Guest guest
The Freeway Patrol MOI bit is not only hilarious but teaches some very important lessons. Humor can be used to educate. I showed that to my recent EMS adult education instructor class and it was a great hit. GG Re: where are the musicians? Wow! I guess some people are sensitive. For reference, I started in EMS in 1981. I have been an EMT, EMT-P, and now an ED physician and EMS Physician for large services, small services, urban and rural. A tactical physician and a volunteer FF. My first experience with mass produced EMS humor was a gag album (yes I still have on vinyl) called " You Respond to Everyone but Me " Had such classics as the cyanotic blues, haul and run (there's no time to be neat) and others. As an ED physician, I know there are times I just want to turn the hydrant off. When I was on the streets, I too loved the times I would arrive at an MVC and no one would admit to being hurt (a no ride). There were times I wished I could tell someone they are not riding with me, but I never was with one of those services. I still can't do that in the ED. I am afraid you may get offended by the YouTube video of the " Freeway Patrol - The one with the Mechanism of Injury " too, so for your own good, don't watch that! Oh, by the way, the patient in that was going to be a no ride, but instead was basically kidnapped. Be safe. Come talk to me at the EMS conference in November. And for your own mental health, lighten up and laugh a little. > > > On Sunday, October 10, 2010 16:23, " Doc P " said: > > > > > OK, probably already been written, but if not... Guest guest
I think that Wes and others that commented are right that there should be room for humor in EMS Francis said: " While I realize that refusals do sometimes occur, they should not be the object of our attention or our goal when leaving the station. This is just bad medicine. " Humor is one thing, but I believe that Francis has hit on a sore spot in EMS that should be patched. It appears that some if not many of the folks in EMS today would rather sit at the station and make no calls at all. Even better if someone could just send them a check and not have to work at all would be better. The trend is becoming, bitch about the frequent flyers, about the calls that were not worthy of the paragods attention, about being called away from the recliner to attend a no ride patient, about having to do anything at work other than start I.V's and save lives. Yes Francis you have hit on something. I find no humor in the paragraph above. Unfortunately there may be more to come. Henry Re: where are the musicians? Lighten up Francis.... Guest guest
I just saw the Freeway Patrol MOI skit on YouTube, yes that was very funny.
