Guest guest
There are apparently at least two ways to digitize x-rays. This is the way I'm going to do it. I took the originals to a photo-shop where they do a lot of specialized work. They will scan the x-rays on a light screen, then burn the results on to a cd. They'll give me one version of each x-ray at 72 dpi...and one version at 300 dpi. One of my questions to Dr. de Smet was whether 72 dpi would be good enough resolution. He seemed to prefer better resolution, but also said, if the images were clear enough, he could use 72. (The difference is the size of the e-mail file. 300 dpi would be about three times the size of 72, as I understand it.) Any way, once I have the cd in hand, I could either mail it as a cd or transfer to an e-mail file, and send that. Dr. d S said he could work with either medium. I think I'm more comfortable sending him the e-mail. But also, remember, this is what I have planned. I haven't had the copying done yet. I'm waiting to pull the trigger until I get a denial of coverage notice from CIGNA. Also note: the cost (for me) will be about $100 to digitize five images. I'll let you know where I go from here... All the best. Alan > Thanks Alan for the info on insurance, now won't you join me in > Belgium in late September? Guest guest
Holy Mackerel Alan, $100.oo to digitize? Seriously, if you use even a decent digital camera, you will get great quality. And, you can really zoom in using the Macro feature for those sexy osteophytes. I just used a blank " word " screen on my computer as a background, and some masking tape to hold em' up, and DeSmet loved the quality. Keep the $100.oo bucks and get some new handball shoes. =) Your'e gonna need em' soon, bub. I think those are just copies, not digital copies. I got copies of my before and after x-rays for my own personal files. A friend took a digital photo of them by taping them to her sliding glass door. Of course I now have trees in my pelvis, but... ;-) Cindy C+ 5/25/01 and 6/28/

Guest guest
A few months ago I was experiencing pain in my hip joint, and fearing that it may have become infected, I was X rayed at the local hospital to enable me to send them in to De Smet for his opinion. I asked the hospital for copies and they offered to put them on a CD rom, as everything is digitised onto their computers now anyway, and would only take a few minutes. They didn't even charge for it. On the other hand, a friend of mine recently made a similar request at another hospital, and was told that " no way could they do anything like that " . So it seems it's the luck of the draw. Worth asking though. Mike B. RBHR 17.06.

Guest guest
Hi My OS sells them for $8 each. They are YOUR films and they cannot keep them from you. You may (probably) have to pay for a copying fee - but they can't deny them to you. Carol - RN Re: DeSmet in late Sept. Guest guest
I know about the copies. But... don't trust international mail enough to get x-rays from San Francisco to Ghent undamaged...and even at all. E-mail doesn't create such concerns. Even my own sports med doc will do that for $9.00 apiece. Since so many others have managed to get them there by mail, I suppose I might just try it. God knows saved money is found money. Guest guest
I want you all to know I'm exercising enourmous restraint by not responding to the whole " trees in the pelvis " post. I really am trying to be a good boy. But I can't help thinking of woodpeckers and sap jokes....
