Am sewing dresses - my old wardrobe is getting to the " dustrag " stage! Also have some patterns for baby clothes, and a new coat... knitting a few new sweaters for me (again, old stuff ready for the ragbag) and the granddaughters... Symptom-wise, have hit the cool-weather cruising altitude - a little spastic, a little achy, a little hard-of-thinking, but nothing spectacular. Waiting to see what doctor I'm sent to next... Guest guest
I need to sew dresses! But my sewing machine is not working. I have my grandmother's old Pfaff dressmaker machine (grandmother was a professional seamstress) and it is no longer working. I really need another sewing machine! But I am hoping to find an inexpensive working treadle. Since I live off-grid a treadle would make the most sense. My sister-in-law in Alaska has a treadle and it works wonderfully. I am filled with envy:)How's the new grandbaby, ?hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
I didn't think anyone used a treadle machine anymore. We have 2 in our storage unit. One was Chuck's gramdma's and the other his aunts. They sure are beautiful when they are fixed up. Guest guest
I have a 1922 Singer treadle, and one of the first Singer " Touchtronics " from the 80s. I don't use the treadle much, since it's sized for a much shorter lady and you only have straight stitch... You can get a brand shiny new Janome treadle from Amazon or *usually( Overstock.com for not horribly much, and have zigzag and reverse - only problem is that they DON'T come with the cabinet. New shiny new granddaughter is fat and happy and growing like a little weed! They're supposed to be up here visiting for Christmas, huzzah, though we don't get the boys since they're going to SC with their mother and her new boyfriend. Ah, well, maybe in the summer! Guest guest
There are lots of treadles still going! They're a lot of fun, and like you said, nne, they are so beautiful it's a joy to use them... I forgot to say, Sharon, there's a big group/site called " Treadleon " that talks about all things treadle, from buying to fixing to sewing - I can't find where I stashed the URL right now, but you can google it easily. Apparently, anything much over $150 is an outrageous price for a good " Red Eye " Singer like mine... in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return... Guest guest
I'll have to look at the Janomes on Amazon or Overstock. I never knew where the were available! I have seen them in a catalog that sells to the Amish community but they were pretty expensive. I didn't know machines were sized for shorter users! hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
I found the group you mentioned! Interesting. And I looked at the Janome on Amazon. I am truly amazed that it is only $249. I haven't found the information so far on the cabinet, but I'll keep looking. It's the same price on Overstock I see. My niece's husband works for Overstock--I wonder if I could get a discount through him;) lol I love the look of the old machines but I am pining for one of these new Janomes!hugs SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Not the machine - it's s standard size - but the cabinet/irons are almost too short for me. My knee bumps the bottom of the cabinet on every " tread " . :-D in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return...
