Guest guest
I have a problem with receeding gums and my dentist has recommended an electric toothbrush, specifically the Sonicare over the Oral B. In doing research on the two I believe the Oral B would be better for my problem as it specifically states it has a pressure sensitive switch to keep you from brushing too hard. My question to all of you - do any of you have experience with these types of toothbrushes and your gums that you could share? --------------------- Yes and yes. I have had the full peridontal surgery for receding and bleeding gums and use a Sonicare. In fact, everybody in my household uses a Sonicare. The Sonicare is more than just an electric toothbrush. It does in fact work as advertised.
Guest guest
I use one, but it's not SoniCare. I use a power flosser too and have notice huge changes in my gums and teeth as a result. It's easier to do a good job flossing with one of these over trying to grip thin thread. Jill

Hi , I use the Oral B toothbrush, but it doesn't have the thing regarding sensitivity that you mentioned. I just LOVE it though!! They hardly have to do any scraping/cleaning when I go to the dentist now, as it does a great job of removing plaque. In MY opinion, I think YOU would know what's best for you!! I would follow your instincts and get the Oral B. You do want to take care of the gums so they don't worsen. My son had to have surgery on his gums because of this. They had to take tissue from the roof of his mouth and put it on his gums somehow. It was weeks before he could eat well or brush his teeth. You're a smart lady, , follow your instincts. As a one of the members of the household who uses a Sonicare I can tell you it DOES work well. I have had fewer dental problems since I started using it and it doesn't irritate my gums. I can't floss because of my hypermobile fingers and tiny little jaw (only 28 teeth instead of 32), but with the Sonicare, that doesn't matter - I still get excellent results on my dental visits and no more bleeding gums. -Barb
Guest guest
, I'm starting to have receeding gum line (last two years only - but now it's going fast) - and I've always been careful and done the 'right' things because my Mom has major problems with receeding gums - so I agree it must be due to EDS. I have never tried an electric toothbrush - just the cheap spin types and those didn't impress me. Based on your post I'm going to check out electric toothbrushes though. Mom had/has problems with bleeding gums and her dentist recommended stimudents - they helped. She also used to use a waterpick - I know it helped, but it was long ago so I don't remember any details. One thing that is suppose to help with receeding gums is CoQ10 - a supplement. Aase said that when she took 3X the recommended dose she noticed a big improvement and I've recently read that appling the CoQ10 directly to the gums has been shown in studies to actually reverse the receeding. I also know that vitamin C is important for gum health, but I don't know if it helps with the problem of receeding gums. > Hi All, > > I have a problem with receeding gums and my dentist has recommended an electric toothbrush, specifically the Sonicare over the Oral B. Even if it were only due to hard brushing the most the electric toothbrush would do is keep it from getting worse not fix it. > > My question to all of you - do any of you have experience with these types of toothbrushes and your gums that you could share? > > Thank you! > Hugs, > B. > HEDS, New Jersey, USA > >

Mainly because my fingers and thumbs are so loose it's difficult /uncomfortable/ & impractical to brush with a regular one. I don't have problems with receding gums-other than what's normal for age. My gums bleed any more tho'! It works really well on ridding my teeth of plaque, too. Also, I've found it works better than the manual stiff denture toothbrushes for cleaning partials and dentures.
