Hi,

I have been communicating with Euromed (free fone 0 from UK) and

the prices you quote WERE correct, but they have just increased their prices to

£6800 (single re-surf),This is still very reasonable when they charge almost

double that in the UK. I have received quite a lot of information from them and

the facilities seem first class +. They also enclosed testimonials from 'happy'

pateints and newspaper articles about their facilities. Many people have gone

there from Wales as the waiting times for hip surgery here are the worst in the

UK 4 years minimum from the hospital receiving the letter from your GP. I have

sent my X-Rays to Euromed and the return assessment stated I need to move fast

to have a hip resurf' or it will be a THR very soon. My local consultant

nochalantly said 6 weeks ago 'Oh! you can go on at least another two years on

that hip' - which co-incides with the waiting list time of course! I am,

however going to send my X-Rays to Dr DeSmet now, as I have read such great

things about him on this site. Anyone out there been through Euromed?

Sue- in waiting!)

Resurfacing costs

Hi All

I'm a bit slow so apologies for replying to a subject of a couple of weeks

back.

The site I am referring to has been mentioned before but It does no harm to

repeat information.

http://www.euro-meds.com/prices/ortho/p_hip.htm

As you can see they quote an all in cost for resurfacing (BHR) of £6000 =

9000 Euro = 11000$ US (please check these conversion calculations). This is for

a 7 day stay with an additional 7 day stay with physio for £450. They also do a

friends and family in the hospital accommodation suite for £15 B&B per person

Has anyone checked this out

Hi Sue

I seem to recall as low price as £7,000.00 for a single hip in the UK.

Certainly my OS, who operated on me on the NHS, does it for £9,000.00 all

inclusive.

I am still confused by ‘waiting lists’ – I seem to recall the Government

objective of getting the waiting lists down to under 1 year and the media

reporting that this target has been generally met. My understanding is also

that the Health Trust has to send you to another area/Trust, or even abroad, if

they either can’t or don’t perform the recommended procedure or if they fail

to deliver against Government targets. I get the impression that some GPs

and/or Health Trusts are trying to manage their budgets by scaring people into

believing that they would have to wait 2 years (or even 4 as you quote) for an

operation in the hope that people would seek alternative solutions privately. I

know that I did not have to wait long for my op – I was seen by the OS in

December and was scheduled for the op, having accepted a last minute

cancellation, at the end of January; this date however fell through due the OS

going down with a flue and I was operated on 2 weeks later – approx. 2 months

after being seen by the OS. I heard of other UK patients having similar waiting

times. I don’t know about Wales – maybe the situation there is much worse.

It might be worth seeking help from your MP. By the way, I was also operated

100 miles away from my Health Trust, yet still on the NHS.

Regards

Dan
