Guest guest
Dear Limpy - copied this from my message in February. It really worked better than just using the phone card. Best wishes Belgium questions re communitcating back to home Dear Friends, I am new to this site and have learned so much already! Thanks to all of you who are so willing to share your experiences and answer questions. I will be going for surgery in a couple of weeks and I am wondering how you communicated with family back in the US. Did you get an international calling card somewhere? Are there internet cafes in Ghent or near the hospital somewhere? Any tips on what to take or not take with me? Thanks! Limpy

Guest guest
Hi! Take as little as possible! You realy won't need it! Dealing with luggage after surgery was the worst part of the trip... Buy a calling card when you get there. It was amazingly cheap to call home with one of those. Yes, there are internet cafes in Gent. The one in the Holiday Inn was much too expensive, so go elsewhere. June > > Dear Friends, > I am new to this site and have learned so much already! Guest guest
Hi Most public libraries in the UK and elsewhere in Europe have PC's with Internet access. The charge would be around $5 an hour. Anyone can use them. Just explain you're a visitor to the librarian and you may be required to have temporary membership. This cost little or nothing dependant upon the country. Rog BHR both hips Treacy 2001 Regarding the above post, I was resurfaced by Koen De Smet in June last year, and whilst in Ghent I enquired at the public library regarding internet access, and was informed that whilst they had internet, it was strictly for residents of the town who were members of the library. I agree that elsewhere it can be different, because whilst accompanying my grandson to the Cleveland Clinic in 2001 I had free access to the internet at the library there. Whilst in Ghent I used the Holiday Inn access and just coughed up, keeping my messages as short as possible. All the best…….. Mike B. Guest guest
Thanks to all of you for the information! Where can you buy the international calling cards over there? Were there any other internet cafes near the Holiday Inn that cost less? Although this is a ridiculous questions seeing as how I'm paying for every cent myself since my insurance says they won't pay. :-) Limpy > Hi > Most public libraries in the UK and elsewhere in Europe have PC's > with > Internet access. Guest guest
Hi Mike I am surprised at the hospitality of our Belgium friends. You're spending around $15000 boosting their local economy and are told NO to internet access. Unbelievable!!**!! The following is an excerpt from the following site: http://www.nelincs.gov.uk/leisure/libraries/Internet+Acceptable+Use+Policy.htm " Who may use the Internet? Access is available to all library members. If you wish to use the internet and are not yet a member you may join free of charge at the time of booking a machine as long as you provide proof of address. Non-members or visitors to the area can access the internet as long as they produce adequate identification, e.g. Driving Licence or passport. " I respectfully suggest that someone asks again and if told the same, question why the British will do it on proof of identity. If they are French speaking my opinion is they wont be outdone by the Brits. A copy of this web page should do the trick. Guest guest
Limpy, Buy the book " Rough Guide to Bruges and Ghent " , It tells you everything you need to know. If you can't afford the book, write to me and I will list all the different internet cafes. You can buy the calling cards at most corner stores. June > > Thanks to all of you for the information! Guest guest
Have your friends and family check out onesuite.com for very cheap phone rates to Belgium. I believe they will be able to call you for only 5 cents a minute. Also, you can purchase the international calling cards at the local tobacco shops in Ghent. -- In surfacehippy , " limpy718 " wrote: > Dear Friends, > I am new to this site and have learned so much already!
