Guest guest
Surf's up...I hope. Leaving by car from the Bay Area for LA today. Consultation tomorrow mid-afternoon with Dr. Amstutz. It feels a little like an audition or a job interview. Will he like my hip? Will he want to work with it? Will he find something else wrong I don't know about? Am I beyond repair? I saw a post earlier, yesterday I think. Somebody said they were scheduled in for a resurf at JRI in August. Is the waiting list that long? Update upon my return. Thanks to all for useful information, humor and encouragement that got me this far. Alan
Guest guest
I have an appointment with Dr. Amstutz tomorrow and scheduled surgery for Tuesday since I am coming from the other coast. I did my consult while I was on an airplane and only heard portions of the conversation. I knew it was bad. I hope I signed up for the right procedure. I will look for you. My two boys have provided me with some great material relative to this hip thing that you may find humorous. Best of luck...Aleks. > Surf's up...I hope. Guest guest
Hi Alan, Good luck tommorrow with your visit. Dr. Amstutz is a cool guy, easy going and all. He's pretty old, so I made him hold his hand out straight see if it would shake....and by God, it was more steady than my own. I brought x-rays from years gone by with me so he could see the chronology of the whole melt down. You'll see a guy name first (doesn't like to be called by his last name), he's a fellow there, has been from some time. He'll probably be the one sewing you up after Dr. Amstutz is done with his saw and Makita. is a teffific guy, very available and caring through everything...including recovery. I can't say enough about that gentleman. I hope someone told you about the buildings exterior and neighboring surroundings. Looks a little sketchy..but they run like a well oiled machine inside. I know that you'll be on official Alan business, but if you would, give the good Dr.'s a hello from Chris Roche. So that you know, I'm feeling great! Working on flexibility now. Sleeping fine, no pain. I'm at day 16, and I am down to 1 crutch, sometimes a cane. Like Steve, my back is getting a little stiff. Perhaps a scandanavian masseus would be in order? Let me know what you find out, & best of luck to you! C+ 4-04 > Surf's up...I hope. Leaving by car from the Bay Area for LA today. > Consultation tomorrow mid-afternoon with Dr. Amstutz. Fretting about it ahead of time isn't going to help any, so why waste the energy on it? > > Will he want to work with it? Will he find something else wrong I > > don't know about? Am I beyond repair? Have you already spoken to him on the phone? If so, I'm sure he would have mentioned if there was anything preventing a resurfacing. > > I saw a post earlier, yesterday I think. Well, when I started trying to pick a date with Nikki on Feb 24, their first available date was 4/15, so that's about 7 1/2 weeks. Of course, I was trying to schedule a bilateral. Since that requires blocking out a larger chunk of operating room time, the wait might be longer than for a unilateral resurface. I don't know how their backlog varies throughout the year. The JRI docs and the nurses, techs, and PTs at Orthopaedic Hospital are really knowledgeable, and very, very dedicated. Like most of the other resurfacing docs, they've got the whole resurface/recovery/rehab routine down to a science. You're in really good hands.
