Check your state law first. States vary greatly on how to handle

pre-existing conditions. For example, in Washington, you can't be denied

coverage if you had it previously with another insurance company. Even if

you had no insurance, the pre-existing condition is guaranteed to be covered

after a 90-day waiting period.

Next, find out what kind of plan is being offered and request all the policy

information so you can read it thoroughly. You can also check the insurance

company's website or call them to ask questions.
