Guest guest
Good for you Cindy. My first anniversary of my second resurf is today. It's 2.5 years since the first. Last night, I went to my usual karate class which I teach and did about 15 min. of sparring, including head kicks. My students range from 15 to 21 so they're pretty quick. Got popped a few times by one of my students but nothing more serious than some bruises. Most satisfying of all was the way I could move around without the pain. I know just how you feel. Believe me you don't need to be an athlete to feel grateful. It's the same feeling in a different context, that's all. A week early, but tonight I walked Glendoveer golf course here in Portland. It is our local golf course with a fitness track around the outside of the course. Total walk was 2 miles. I tried Glendoveer once, many years pre-op, made it to the first turn (about 1/8 of a mile) and turned around and went home. I realize this is nothing for the runners or the more fit of you, but pre-op, I was barely able to walk to my next door neighbors house. In January, when I was determined to really start exercising, I barely made it to the 1/4 mile mark on the video ( Sansone walking video) before being ready to collapse. As usual, my lower back tried to go into spasms, and by the end my legs were starting to feel a little jelly-like, but I made it. I feel like I've had a good workout, and my legs will probably be sore tomorrow, but I HAVE NO PAIN!!!! How good is that??!!!!!!
Guest guest
Cindy, Congratulations on your walk around the golf course and your upcoming anniversary. Have you ever tried rollerblading? If you've skated it's a lot like that but easier. Whatever you decide, have fun and let us know what you decided to do. Guest guest
HI Lari How are you doing? Any improvements? what about the tests? I am improving still quite slowly but I can walk now up to 23 minutes (but the other hip is now starting to limit me more than the operated one!!). and my ROM is increasing a bit. Overall I have less pain although still the setbacks happen but now I am so used to it! And it is so nice to be able to walk (for a year and a half I could not even walk two blocks) in the fresh air. I finally managed to have an apointment with a local surgeon (I have had 2 apointements cancelled) for May 26 and I hope this one will not be cancelled! This surgeon started to do resurf a year ago so I hope he can follow up on my BHR. I hope you are doing better too and would love to hear from you. Guest guest
Hi Cindy and Des, You both seem like old mates having been here since I first arrived.............. Very glad to hear you are both continuing to do so well and having these personal achievements.............. I understand exactly what you are saying Cindy re being able to walk the distance etc........... the first time I realised I could walk just that little extra I was totally delighted........... It is nice not to have the restriction of worrying about how far one goes in case one simply cannot return............... One of the advantages of a treadmill I guess............... All the best and may we all grow old walking and kicking heads................smile............though I think my achievements will have to be measured in distance swum given the rest of the body..............
