So if he recommends for instance one brand of oil filter over another, he can earn himself $5 per filter he sells of the brand that does spiffs. The spiffs aren't always given for some of the better brands, either.....it's often a tool to move more of the crummier brands. So if this is true of the medical profession, I sure don't want to be the recipient of the cheapest/least effective/more dangerous medicine for my condition! Guest guest
Yes it is a common practice especially with gastros. They are involved in many research projects. As long as it is disclosed do not be alarmed. IT IS WHEN IT IS NOT disclosed that you need to run, run as fast as you can to a different doctor and never look back! Guest guest
Doctors, disclosures, stocks in pharmacueticals Hi all Is it a common practice for docs to own stocks in the pharmacueticals that they specialize in and advise them and receive money from them and own stock in them? It just seems a bit shifty to me; any thoughts? ~~~~~~ Hmmmm you just confirmed a suspicion I've had about some MD's pushing certain pills/meds!!! Thanks

Guest guest
I was just thinking how many times this doctor could write himself a check with this method: The initial visit, a kick back from the rx, a kick back from the stock, increasing his own demand to research, a kick back for reporting the medical information to the pharmacuetical company, the return visit, a kick back from the increase the dosage, oh and lets add the miracle statin drug while we are at it. Plus he wants her to do the in-depth testing for it; I imagine there are kick backs for using certain medical appliances, anesthesia.
